I have a splinter in my foot but I can't see it or grab it. What should I do?

I think it may be glass or similar. It hurts

if you can't see it or get the end of it then leave it.
I was reading only earlier today about how you should leave splinters. Your body will reject it- it will probably get a bit infected and the splinter will come out with the pus

Hope it's quick - I can't put my heel down! You're right though, that is the logical way.

moondog · 08/07/2007 23:12

It might not come out on its own. Now that the infection (and septicaemia!!) has gone (long horrible story), there seem to be a small piece of metal in my thumb. It still hurts, and it is nearly 3 weeks since I hurt myself. Body is working on ejecting it.

The best way to get it out is to soak your foot in water mixed with a lot of fairy liquid. if it is WOOD, then it will swell, and push itself out, usually within an hour of sitting with your foot in fairy liquid. In any case, after half an hour soaking you can try PUSH on the area around it to push it out, whether it is wood or glass... Good luck

TooTicky · 08/07/2007 23:37

Thanks for all the replies and I hope your thumb feels better soon SSN!

Another vote for hot salt water here.

Apply generous amount of magnesium sulphate paste (you can buy in any chemist)cover with a dressing and leave overnight. It will draw it out enough to grab the end.

Great, thanks

I remember ds1 once trod on a dried up leaf with hundreds of the most miniscule prickles. We were there for ages with the tweezers.
