Raised folate in bloods

NGC2017 · 08/03/2019 17:01

Has anyone had any experience of this? I have been called back to see my GP but whilst I wait I can help but worry a little.
Any advice would be appreciated

Many thanks x

It can be a sign of a medical condition that keeps folate from being used properly. Are you taking it as a supplement, and if so, how much?

Ellabella989 · 08/03/2019 18:35

Sounds like you could have anaemia

It can also be a transient artifact if blood is drawn after supplementation or other dietary source.

I have to supplement vitamin D, high strength, due to tests last year revealing I am severly deficient. I also take a multivitamin tablet.

I had to see a doctor after feeling pretty crappy for a long time. Over the last 5 to 6 weeks I have noticed an increase in my need to urinate, I am struggling to go to the toilet for the other, I am tired, nauseous, irritable. My tummy is bloated and uncomfortable and I am having shooting pains in my stomach and down below.

Did you get a physical exam when the blood was drawn?

NGC2017 · 08/03/2019 20:18

No. I haven't been given a physical examination which has surprised me given the symptoms. The doctor just said 'its likely to be IBS'

Your symptoms are mostly consistent with IBS but you really need an endoscopic exam to determine that. They should do a fecal too.

How soon are you going back in? You're not passing any visible blood are you?

kingsleysbootlicker · 08/03/2019 22:49

High folate can be a sign of SIBO which your others symptoms point to too

kingsleysbootlicker · 08/03/2019 22:51

SIBO can also cause Vit D deficiency, as well as B12 and A deficiencies
