Horrible night last night- had to get an ambulance out to DS2.....

.....and then felt like a prat as I felt I had wasted their time.

Ds2 was dancing in the living room last night, spinning around etc.

fell forward and hit his face with such a force on my big, thick, wooden coffee table.
the sound and his angle at which he hit it, I honestly thought he must have smashed his nose in.
As I approached him he had blood pouring from his mouth.

It appears he bit both the top and bottom of his tongue, of course as its more vascular in the mouth, the blood was pouring, I thought he had bit right through it.

I panicked- dp was out and I dont drive so in my blind panic called 999 and asked for an ambulance.

they arrived within 10 mins and sorted ds out, luckily he didnt need stitching.

Felt like I had wasted their time ( but there was blood EVERYWHERE- all up my walls etc!)

So bloody scary- poor soul, his mouth is really sore today.

Oh I bet I would have done the same...where does all that blood come from one teeny cut and it's like a scene from a tarantino movie. Poor little chap. Hope it feels better tomorrow.

Better to be safe than sorry. It must have been really scary (for you as well as him)

If it is any comfort, last night our neighbour came round in a panic, there was smoke billowing out of the top floor of his house. We rang the fire brigade (who were arsey with dh when he rang again 10 mins later, asking if "there were actual flames?") but who arrived with two engines and lots of handsome pompiers a few minutes later.

Dh had run in and switched off the electricity and the firemen went up with torches - to find an ironing board black and charred and burning clothes next to it and the iron ablaze. The neighbours wife had taken the kids off on holiday that afternoon and had just ironed a couple of things before she left, and had forgotten to turn off the ironing board.....

he must have pierced the top of tongue with about 4 teeth. You can see the tears in the skin.

DS1 was a right wreck- ran out into the garden screaming " mommy help him- help him!!"

you were right to call for help - thank goodness he was ok.

tiredemma · 08/07/2007 18:15

how scary ggg. Love 'pompiers' sounds so much better than 'fireman!"

Tiredmma - hope he is ok now (and you)
It's so scary isn't it?

MrsBigD · 08/07/2007 18:16

tiredemma, wouldn't worry about having wasted their time. better safe than sorry and I don't think they mind especially with young children and blood everywhere.

I'll never forget the day when we went out for a walk and ds tripped falling head over heals down the slope then blood spurting from his forehead! We were in the middle of nowhere so had to powerwalk with shocked dd and bleeding and screaming ds to nearest bit of civilisation. I'm actually first aid trained but all knowledge went out of the window and all I could remember was 'he's screaming that's good'.

Second pub we got to called an ambulance (first pub asked whether we had called NHS direct!!! WTF???). Ambulance drivers checked ds over and said he's fine just headwounds bleed a lot and as he's quite alert considering he'd been screaming for an hour they're not worried about him. I did apologise to them as I felt like I'd wasted their time but they said if in doubt call!

Hope your ds is feeling better soon and not as sore.

tiredemma · 08/07/2007 18:16

he is ok now- has been his old self- tearing around garden!

If it ever happens agian (god forbid) give them a spoonful of sugar it stops the bleeding straight away, learnt it on a first aid course.
