Single patch of eczema which will NOT GO

I've had this patch on my lower leg for years, maybe a decade. It goes down for a few days with steroid cream but never ever goes. It can get very angry and itchy without steroids. It's about 2 inches by 1 inch.
Has anyone ever managed to get such a patch to go? Or do I accept it will be there forever?

I've got exactly the same, insame place as well. Sadly haven't found a way to get rid - 14 years on Sad

Do you use emolients on it?

Goldmandra · 07/03/2019 20:47

I have the occasional patch that won't go with hydrocortisone but something stronger from the GP usually works. I used to use a cream called Synalar which was amazing but I don't know if you can still get that.

Had a patch like this for a few years but ages ago. I assume you have tried: no soap or cleanser, and either pure lanolin or mixed with shea butter? For me, no soap/shower gel worked for me plus e45 daily (i know its crap), and when it reoccurred a decade later, lanolin nipple cream. It was on my calfbone where there was no fat underneath the skin. Plus changing my diet and adding lots of good fats.

I grew out of eczema too. Then after the menopause it came back with a real vengeance.

Everywhere all the time. It’s a constant battle

Then after the menopause it came back with a real vengeance.

I hope that doesn't happen to everyone!

I had a what sounds like a similar patch of itchy flaking skin on my leg. The thing that has got it under control is Ameliorate cream (it’s called transforming body lotion which has been true for my leg, after about 15 years it is back to normal). I had used all sorts of creams before which were no help, including steroids from the GP.

I had a patch of eczema on my shin of a similar size that never really went no matter what I did. It was there years. A dermatologist suggested using a piece of Duoderm extra thin hydrocolliod dressing over it with a thin layer of my usual steroid cream underneath. I did it for 2-3 days worn all the time but changed each day and it disappeared. It's never come back. I was amazed having been to the GP so many times and got nowhere.

I have a very stubborn patch on my lower leg too! I think it’s called discoid/nummular eczema, sometimes it will get slightly better with treatments other times it will flare for no reason but it’s always there

I have patches on my fingers, never really goes. Had it there for 4 years or so.Does die down a bit then every-time i am stressed starts again. Spreading to my hand now. Itchy and sore now. The steroid cream helps a bit but not great.

How about asking gp for alternative cream as there are several available as the kids have tried various ones. i tend to use what they use as no time to go for myself.
