Head lice

Good evening, I’m after some information regarding the life cycle of head lice please.

My daughter is 7 years old and had caught head lice around 9 times so far, since she started school. I have to check every evening after bath time as we are always having letters sent home from her classroom.

She went to stay at her dad’s for half term last week, I checked her hair on the Friday before and didn’t find anything. She came home on Sunday and I’ve checked every evening since. Tonight, she had four lice crawling in her hair.

I’m wondering, did she catch all four today? Or do you think she caught them during the half term as she’s been with her cousins a lot, and that they’ve just hatched today? I’m just trying to figure out the life cycle as it says online that it takes 7-10 days for them to hatch.

This happened at Christmas too; I checked on the day before she went to her dad’s and didn’t find anything but she had a head full when she came back.

What size were they? If they were larger then they would be adults. If they were tiny they would be hatchlings. Have you spoken to your ex to ask if they have lice too?

I would keep doing weekly lice checks, and lice combing, also making sure she has rosemary oil or such added to abquality conditioner and t.tree oil. Hair in plaits as much as poss too.

There's nothing you can do about exs management of things unless he's a decent man and will listen, otherwise pointless making a fuss as if hes abusive for example, he'll be enjoying the extra hassle it gives you.

He’s very abusive, we fled from him but he has contact every other weekend. We don’t communicate, it’s all through third parties (family members).

Tonight’s lice are medium size (I’ve seen larger ones) and they’re dark. Not baby ones. I know they’re harmless it’s just so frustrating.

I’ll defintelt stick to the plaits.

Putting the oil (rosemary and t tree) could really help as a preventative too.

I am so sorry to hear you went through all that to get away and then have to send your DC to this abuser every other weekend d to stay over??! What a nonsense english law and safeguarding is!

Smotheroffive · 08/03/2019 04:05

Why when he's highly abusive do the DC have to stay over with him, or even see them on their own without any hope of protection from him!!

@smotheroffive I know, we’re on the fourth year since the order was finalised and I will never be free. But if I don’t adhere to the Order he will take me to court again. It’s all control.

On the plus side, no lice this morning!

It really is, and yet if you'd stayed with him ss would have threatened you with removing the DC, so you leave take the DC and then have to hand them over on their own Sad Angry and Envy

Keep checking for eggs on the hair, they take ages to totally clear - also keep her hair tied back
