*Triggering* What is a death from pneumonia like?

Has anyone experienced the loss of someone from pneumonia?

Was the death peaceful or was it horrible? What happened? Trying to prepare myself.

It was peaceful enough. A gentle decline, but what did surprise me was it took longer than I expected in that he hung on for several weeks. We decided not to treat my relative's pneumonia due to other health issues, and to let him go. It was the right decision and most places are fairly good at easing the way for them.

My very elderly dad told me before he died (not from pneumonia) that it was known as the pensioner's friend because it was a very gentle way of dying. He didn't say it because it was happening to anyone we knew - it came up in conversation because he knew his time was so limited.

I hope everything is peaceful.

My DM died from pneumonia but she already had a lung disease and it finished her off. It was quick for us (only two days) but again it was hard to separate it from her main health problems.

The hospital were brilliant and I don't think she suffered in the end. Lots of drugs to help the panic about breathing and morphine to help any pain. She slipped away quite peacefully.

I have been reading with the end in mind a hospice workers book on dying. The dr says in most deaths people gradually become increasingly sleepy. Hope you are getting the RL support

My mum died from pneumonia last year after fighting it for a number of weeks but she had an underlying lung condition so wasn't strong enough to recover. Her actual death was peaceful, she was unconscious most of that day and not in any pain according to the nurses but she did suffer an awful lot in the week leading up to that. She was in ICU on life support (but conscious initially, the ventilator was very upsetting and uncomfortable for her ) then ended up with collapsed lungs which they had to reinflate (very painful) and a number of other things.
However I think she was an extreme case but I'm sure not unheard of. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

My mum died of it. Like the others it was very peaceful and managed.

It was really heartbreaking but it was a good death if there is such thing.
