Prevent / reduce scaring on face

What can I use to prevent or reduce scars on my face? I got splashed over my chin by boiling oil while cooking, 1.5 weeks ago. The scabs are now gone, but I have x4 red patches, one is bigger than a 5 pence piece. I appreciate they may get better with more time but would like to do what I can, because of where they are.

Chloramphenicol eye ointment is a little known remedy for reducing scarring! The chemist won’t sell it to you unless you say you have conjunctivitis. But.. it works!

Oh and hope you are ok!

Alovira to aid with healing then silicone

Dermatix silicone patches. They also have silicon gel, though I think I used a different make.

I used the patches for a couple of months from the moment my dressings came off, and then a silicone gel stick for the next year. I am very pleased with the result.

Make sure you use sunscreen this summer! Too much sun is very bad for scars.

Do thesework for old scaring or stretch marks?

Haypanky · 06/03/2019 16:55

Thank you folks, I'll look into silicone. No mention of vitamin E yet, which i had heard good things about?

They don't work for stretch marks because stretch marks are under the skin. They only work on scars that reach the surface of the skin. Nothing except time fades stretch marks.

They work best on fresh scars, but claim to give some improvement on scars up to 2y old IIRC.

Kelocote also has silicone and is very good for scarring

I had skin cancer removed from my face and I had a very long scar going all the way from between my eyebrows to the side of a nostril and my surgeon told me to rub pure rosehip oil (rosa mosqueta) on the scar. Nobody can see a scar now unless I point it to them and they come very close.
This is for incisions, not sure about burns, as after the burns you are left with very pinkish skin and rosa mosqueta is a brown oil . Agree with avoiding the sun for six months definitely. I was advised to put zinc sun block not sunscreen as less effective.
