Does anyone take propranolol for anxiety and migraines?

I’ve always been a very anxious person but have tried to manage it myself. However, since hitting my mid 40’s the anxiety is out of control, it’s everyday, I’m very panicky often and it’s getting the better of me. I do think I’m perimenopause (gp says no but I disagree so am changing gp’s). I also am getting more migraine with aura these days (again, I think this may be perimenopause?). Anyhow, it’s the terrible anxiety which I really want to get under control atm. My gp wants me on antidepressants but I don’t want to take something that full on. I’ve read that propranolol is good for panicky anxiety and migraines.
Does anyone have any experiences of this?

My dr put me on them for migraines 2 weeks ago. I haven't had one yet.
I can't comment on the anxiety side as I also take anti depressants.

I take proprananol for anxiety.

It only combats physical symptoms like racing heart, sweating etc.

If you want something to tackle the brain side you need an antidepressant.

Don't rule it out because of stigma. It's changed my life and made it livable again (citalopram)

Interesting that it's used for migraines. I have at least 2 a week so it doesn't do anything for that Confused

I take it for anxiety and find it really helpful. Can't comment on the migraine side but it definitely helps control the panic symptoms. Only down side for me is a bit of diarrhoea!! But definitely not addictive as I don't take everyday, only when I need to.

Propranolol is used to counteract the physical effects of anxiety. I take it and it's stopped (mostly) my heart feeling like it's going to beat out of my chest when I get worked up. I've still had migraines whilst on it though

It’s the physical aspect of anxiety I want to control as I get in a cycle of anxiety, physical symptoms and then excessive worry about these symptoms (have bad health anxiety). I would take antidepressants but I’m so worried about the initial side effects, I just don’t think I could get through those first few weeks!!

I have taken propranolol for anxiety for 7 years. It's been fab for me and kept me off anti-depressants. I can take 80mg a day
Most I ever take is 20mg, but often just 10mg and most days I don't take them. They've been great because I can take them when I feel anxious or am going into a situation that makes me anxious.

I take propanalol for anxiety and find it great. It takes away most of the physical symptoms and they're what bothered me. I used to feel physically very anxious and that made me mentally anxious so once I got control of the body side then my mental anxiousness ramped right down. I find it much easier to stay calm in my head when my pulse isn't racing and I've no butterflies etc.

meredith that’s what I’m looking for, something that will help take the edge off so I can live without fear of everything.
