Crunches (in early pg)?
Lunges?
Push ups?
weights (5kgs)?
squats?
Aerobics?

I have a workout dvd that I really like and (I am not keen on yoga type workouts) I would like to continue to do it while pg - which exercises can I continue and for how long? Any MN experts that can advise?

Not an expert but did work out with PT for part of pregnancy and am again now DS is here. Pregnancy hormones apparently affect tendons making them looser, so you have to be really careful doing anything with high impact. Also anything which really engages core muscles is not recommended so no to lunges, squats, push ups and of course crunches. Also a lot of jumping about is not really going to do your pelvic floor any favours as time goes on.

Thanks tripple, I know from my 1st pg that there are some exercises that are advised against, however, I do think that I was a bit over-cautious and precious about my 1st pg and think that I could manage more than my half hour walk a day this time around. The dvd I like is relatively gentle and includes pelvic tilts and even pelvic floor exercises (it is a post-natal workout) but it also has lunges and squats and crunches - I just want to know what is safe and what is not!

I know, everyone is so risk averse (understandably). Walking can be really effective if you introduce some light weights and alternate your speed.

Yes good plan - I was starting to feel really fit and (dare I say it?) toned again, and whilst I want to have another lo, I don't want to gain as much weight and more importantly lose as much fitness with this pgy as I did with ds!

If you don't mind me asking how much does a PT charge?

The one I have now is £40 an hour, the one previously was in the gym and varied between £45 and £50 depending if there was a deal on. The current trainer comes to my house and we then head off to the park, or if its raining stay in doors. Are you in London?

No, in Scotland where (lucky for me) I think that the cost is a bit less. May need to look in to it a bit further...

Thanks tipple.
