You need to contact the GP surgery/ specialist secretary. No point in making another repeat request when it has already been declined.

yes it won't be able to go on EPS now, you or the pharmacy will have to pick it up from the GP. pregabalin and gabapentin are addictive with a high street value and fairly useless for most chronic pain - hopefully this change will mean they are less prescribed.

Thank you for your quick reply s.
@dietcokemegafan may i ask why they need to be less prescribed.
Thank you

What would happen to people who have been taking these medications for years then suddenly they have their prescriptions declined?

They are addictive but for some people they are the only way for them to live a normal life. A relative of mine has been taking Pregabaline for years, she has Neuralgia and before she got prescribed Pregabaline she had tried all different sorts of medication and none of them slowed the Neuralgia attacks. Pregabaline was the only thing to work. It’s not like she’s whacked out of her mind either, she has a full time job and is very coherent.

It won't have been declined, it will have printed out as a paper prescription rather than going electronically.

There are 2 places it could be - sitting in the prescription collection box at the surgery desk, or possibly left for your pharmacy to collect if they do that/there is a note on your records to have them do that.

If your pharmacy don't collect from the surgery, you or a nominated friend will have to collect from the surgery, often with ID.

Or change your electronic nomination to a pharmacy that does have a closer link to the surgery and will collect.

I am sorry, it's a real pain for patients.

Thought I'd lost the plot when I saw pregabalin marked CD the other day!

Gabapentin and pregabalin are both becoming schedule 3 drugs on 1st April.
This month the CD prescribing trial via EPS is being extended to all vision systems and TPP systmone so if your GP uses either of these IT systems then your pregabalin will go via EPS even as a controlled drug.

I’m a pharmacist and we’ve been part of the trial for cd EPS dispensing, so far it’s been great and cut down on a lot of issues

Girlinthegarden · 03/03/2019 18:44

I wasn't aware until someone requested it and I saw CD next to it! I did ring then and explain though.

StillMedusa · 03/03/2019 20:46

I'm on Gabapentin for TN and for the first time when I picked it up this week I had to tick an extra box on the prescription slip for CD. No problem with reissue though.
