Sudden pain shooting through finger to wrist...anyone care to hazard a guess as to why?!

A few days ago I was doing something mundane like unloading the dishwasher/putting plates away when something in my hand/wrist/finger suddenly really hurt - sharp, sudden pain. There might even have been a bit of a "twang" sensation.

Since then if I catch my middle or ring finger, or if I inadvertently put pressure through them (like pushing a drawer shut for example) a pain shoots down my finger and through my wrist (inner part of wrist, where you might dab your perfume IYSWIM). It really stops me in my tracks when it happens!

I'm also getting occasional pain when not even using that hand.

Anyone out there got any ideas of what's going on please?

Trapped nerve? Talk to your gp. Hope it gets better.

Repetitive Strain Injury

Tendonitis

might be worth talking to a pharmacy as it's Saturday. If tendonitis, Voltarol gel might help.

Thanks both.

I don't want to go to a GP at this stage. If I went with every ache and pain I had I would be there all the time. Although maybe the fact that I always seem to have pain in some joint or other is indicative of a particular problem.

It doesn't hurt all the time when I move it which I thought was odd (thought that might rule out things like tendonitis?) and there's no swelling, just these sudden shooting sharp pains at odd times.

Are you hypermobile/double-jointed, OP?

averystrangeweek · 02/03/2019 14:03

Maybe you have snapped a tendon, that would account for the twanging sensation.

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 02/03/2019 15:55

No I'm not double jointed/hypermobile.

I did once snap a tendon in a finger but that was different - it was swollen and movement was affected - so I don't think it was that.

when I had tendonitis, from wrist to top of thumb, it only did the twang sensation with certain movements.

you don't necessarily need to go a GP but rest it if you can, as I say some voltarol gel might help.

Possibly carpel tunnel?

Rosiesmummy17 · 03/03/2019 22:04

If you flex your wrist and tap the area of your wrist beneath your palm, does it hurt? Also, if you extend your wrists and put the backs of your hands together for 30 seconds does it hurt? If so, both indicate carpal tunnel x
