I eat lots of dorset museli - it is really nice nad good for me but occurred to me that whilst expensive ingredients can't cost that much.

Anyone ever made their own that tastes a bit like dorset museli?

I have no idea what dorset muesli is, but i just cut my finger open hacking into a packet of gouda. I have felt a bit ill all day, and suddenly have ravenous hunger, and gouda is all i could find. I bled on my cracker.

FrannyandZooey · 06/07/2007 22:45

me me me me me

will be back shortly with recipe

FrannyandZooey · 06/07/2007 22:46

This makes a crunchy granola style muesli, IMO much nicer than plain old Dorset :

3 cups oats
1 cup wheatgerm
1/4 cup linseed
1/4 cup sesame seeds
1/4 cup sunflower seeds
4 tbsp ground almonds
1 tbsp barley malt
1 tbsp molasses (dissolve this and the barley malt in a little hot water otherwise it is too sticky)
1/4 cup olive oil
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp ground cinnamon
2 cups raisins
Half cup dessicated coconut

Combine barley malt, molasses, oil, vanilla and cinnamon in a bowl. Mix all else except raisins and coconut in another bowl. Mix wet with dry. Stir well until all coated. Spread onto 2 baking trays and bake at 180 / gm 4 for 20 mins, stirring after 10 mins.
Add raisins and coconut and allow to cool. Place in airtight tin or jar in the fridge. Serve with milk as usual.

well I know you haven't had dorset museli bocs but it isn't really like blood and gouda - it's a bit more oaty.

FrannyandZooey · 06/07/2007 22:47

and Boco I am sorry I was Sharp and Unfeeling about your cheese-related injury. It was Unkind of me

Boco · 06/07/2007 22:47

what is wrong with sharing about gouda? It's just a cheese, there's no harm in it, and the cracker was wholewheat wholefood type very very brown!

FrannyandZooey · 06/07/2007 22:48

ah

but there was harm in it, wasn't there?

BBBee · 06/07/2007 22:48

thanks F&Z that sounds wonderful. Will mak a list and shop adn report back.

Not one of my 10 a day though am guessing.

I think she has gone off feeling sad now

I feel like I kicked a puppy

Boco · 06/07/2007 22:51

Oh x posts, it's ok franny, i forgive you.

It's just the way the blood has pooled under my nail, it's disturbing - the very hungry and the bit freaked out by injury is a little confusing.

Rather impressed with the muesli recipe though, BBB are you going to make it?

Balls · 06/07/2007 22:51

Even better with milk free milk - can't bear the stuff! I make mine with pumpkin seeds, cranberries, dried cherries, ginger, whole brazils and rolled oats. It is such a personal thing that I change it to suit the mood and sometimes my husband objects to my ginger obsession. He calls it "jaw breaker" down to the brazils!

Mung · 06/07/2007 22:52

mmm...sounds good (better than the plain old porridge). I'm writing it down right now

FrannyandZooey · 06/07/2007 22:52

Boco, that was the bit I didn't like, the blood bit

did you get anything to eat yet? Do you still feel bad?

FrannyandZooey · 06/07/2007 22:53

it isn't my recipe btw, is from "Optimum Nutrition for Babies and young children" or whatever it is called. Fab book.

BBBee · 06/07/2007 22:53

I am going to give it a go boco - I don't know where I can get molasses and barley malt but will print out list and take to hippy shop tomorrow.

I am eating 2 boxes or dorset museli a week and it is about £40 a box.

OP posts:
BBBee · 06/07/2007 22:54

(hmmm ginger)

TooTicky · 06/07/2007 22:54

Franny, does the baking diminish the nutritional value of the seeds?

FrannyandZooey · 06/07/2007 22:55

That Dorset muesli is a shocker

not even organic, just put in a good olf honest cardboard yet tastefully lentilly box and whopped up to quadruple price

v clever marketing

Boco · 06/07/2007 22:56

I AM still feeling bad actually. I have a headache in one cheek and eye, all day, felt a bit sick. But now i'm really hungry. Which must be why i'm sitting in a muesli thread.

Although it's more mashed potato that I think i'd like to eat.

FrannyandZooey · 06/07/2007 22:56

Not according to Opt Nut thingy, TooT

you could add them later when it is cold, if you wanted to, I think?

Balls · 06/07/2007 22:56

I belivee the most important thing with linseed etc is to crack it prior to eating. And I'm pretty sure raw is optimum. Have you read Patrick Holford?

Boco · 06/07/2007 22:56

Is dorset muesli the stuff in really skinny boxes? With a nice font? And a little see through bit?

TooTicky · 06/07/2007 22:57

What, crack each linseed?

TooTicky · 06/07/2007 22:57

Is Dorset muesli the stuff in colour coded boxes with rather creepy outsize raisins?
