MMR for adults?

My baby has had his MMR vaccination and I was telling the nurse I remember having mumps and rubella as a child because I was really ill. She said you shouldn’t have caught it, surely you were vaccinated? She checked my record and apparently I never had the MMR vaccination because I was about 6 when it was introduced.

She said I can have it if I want it. I don’t know if I need it or if it’s a good idea?

Has anyone else had MMR as an adult? Do I need it?

I've had it as an adult. When I was pregnant with DD my bloods showed I wasn't rubella immune so they gave it to me before I left the hospital. I had another dose a few years later. It was only then my mum told me I'd had none of my childhood imms! So I've had them all since.

Did you have a single measles vaccine? I just missed out on the MMR by a couple of years, but I was vaccinated against measles as a baby. You'll already be immune to mumps and rubella if you caught them as a child.

I probably would. There are quite frequent outbreaks of Measles both in the UK and Europe ( Russia used to be quite a hot spot IIRC) and it can be unpleasant.
There have been vaccination for adults campaigns in areas of Measles or Mumps outbreaks

Whilst my Mum swears I had the measles vaccine, but there is no record. I also clearly remember having the rubella vaccine ( queuing up at school for it) there is no record of it.
I was then travelling to the Dordogne in 2011 during the measles epidemic so I had an adult course of MMR -two injections four weeks apart.

I would just say better safe than sorry and get the vaccine. There are ongoing measles outbreaks and it's safer to be protected. I had the single measles jab as a child and rubella in my teens and MMR as an adult. No issues or side effects at all.
