Worried sick re. FIL and PSA. Prostate problems? Confused

Hello,
My FIL has to go for a blood test soon and I've been asked to take him. No other details given, he hasn't mentioned what it's for. MIL just said "oh well, you know he's been tired recently so the doctors want to check him out" when I asked her. I felt she was covering something up and didn't want me to know (although possibly not as I'm being paranoid as I'm an over anxious type anyway!).
Just seen his blood test form lying on the work top and it says test for U&E and in another column PSA?
I've googled it and it comes up with Prostate Cancer and now I'm worrying myself sick. He's 72. Otherwise healthy and active and still working!
Any experience or reassurance please?
Many thanks

I would think a psa count would be a normal test at his age. Even a high level does not necessarily indicate cancer, or even if so it may not need treatment, just observation. Many elderly men die with pc but not because of it. Hth

Very normal to check PSA at that age. Prostate cancer is very very common in men in that age group. My own FIL has had it for years and hasn't ever even needed treatment as it's so slow growing.

It's a normal, sensible test for a man his age to have. It's also an extremely curable cancer if he did happen to have it. You're a long, long way from having anything to worry about.

Like others have said, it is common for the doctor to request a PSA test on men. Hope he's okay, let him discuss it with you if he wants to when you take him for the blood test.

Hello, just wondering if anyone will see this thread? He's been called back for more blood tests, do you think this is a cause for concern?. Any advice please

Maybe his initial tests were inconclusive? It's really hard to say but I would imagine if his initial bloods had shown something he would have been called back for CT scans etc instead .. Hoping that all is well for him.

Yes that could be the case! He doesn't really say a lot so hard to tell, he'd hate me worrying and fussing!!
Thank you xx
