HPV Virus

Hi,

Wonder if anyone can help? I had an abnormal smear 3 years ago, following that a colcoscopy (prob spelt wrong) and lletz procedure. I was told at the time that the sample taken was HPV positive. Treatment was all fine and came back clear afterwards. I have recently had a clear smear.
However, have recently had a urine infection, had antibiotics and symptoms are still persisting. I have a burning sensation and slight itching but more burning.
My question is - could this be linked to HPV? Or does it completely go after treatment? Been googling and confusing myself - will go to the GP tomorrow (too late for an appt today) but if someone could put my mind at rest that would be helpful.
Thanks

HPV doesn't give you any of those symptoms - burning and itching is more likely to be thrush after taking the antibiotics. Your GP should have an idea.

You can get OTC treatments (canesten) and also a pH balancing treatment (Multi-gyn) from the pharmacy.

@Melroses thanks for your reply. Am I right to think HPV would give those symptoms if it had developed to herpes? I'm confused as to whether all HPV viruses are the same?

HPV is a human wart virus. There are loads of varieties. A very small number of varieties can lead to persistent infection in the cervix which may lead to cell changes, which may lead to cervical cancer. It doesn't have symptoms, but can be detected through the screening programme.

Herpes is a different kind of virus and comes from the same family of viruses as Chicken Pox and Cold sores. It gives you nasty sores Sad

It is probably confusing as all these viruses begin with 'h' Wink

There is also HIV

Thrush is a fungal infection (Candida albicans). It is something you have in your normal 'flora' but if you have been taking antibiotics, these kill off some of the lactic acid forming bacteria and tip the balance in favour of the thrush-causing organisms. This can be sorted.
