Should I taker her to the doctor?

DD is 10 and has been complaining of a stomach ache since Saturday. She doesn't have any other symptoms like sick or toilet issues and it's not stopping her from eating but it is waking her in the night

She has already started periods but finished last week so don't think it's that. She has a hacking cough but the pain is more crampy and ache rather than muscle strain. She hasn't empties bowels for a couple of days but wee is fine

She wants me to take her to the doctors but my feeling is that probably isn't necessary. Any advice?

I would be more likely to go to a pharmacist to get something to help her go

Could it be appendicitis? She's prime age for it!

Over the Internet, it sounds like it could be constipation. If that's the case, get her drinking litres of water or squash, get her out moving (family walk?) and eat some prunes, drink apple juice, no bananas. I would do that for 24hrs then see.

Does it hurt more when you press her stomach?

Dollygirl2008 · 19/02/2019 08:52

I'm tempted to say no to appendicitis as it doesn't seem painful when I touch it and there is no fever no definitely no loss of appetite!

Might be a touch of constipation as we have been out for a few large meals over the weekend and thencough might be a coincidence. I've given her some calpol and a hot water bottle and we'll see how we go

DD has just had something similar (long lasting stomach cramps) and I did take her to the doctor (it worsened on day 3). Hers was an inflammed bowel - she needed to have a light diet and avoid dairy etc that might aggravate it. He said it was likely to be a virus but we did a faecal sample just to check (that came back normal).

It took a week to go altogether

Don't want to frighten you but if she has abdo pain I would take her to a/e.i had give days of stomach cramps and thought period pains,am now in a ward after being rushed to theatre from a/e with burst appendix

Thank you for your replies. Quartz that is very interesting. I took her to the local nurse and she wasn't too worried but said to monitor for a few more days but to obviously go back if symptoms worsen etc which we will. Fingers crossed it passes soon

Yes with DD it got worse in the night as she would feel better during the day so would get hungry and eat lots at night - that would inflame it and then make it worse in the morning, she would not eat so much then until it went and rinse and repeat
