Does shingles start with very itchy skin and then clear, fluid filled blisters? No red rash just the weird blisters.

That's how mine started, on my head :(

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 19/02/2019 03:44

Where is it? I had about of pompholyx that started like that. On my hands and fingers.

Can be caused by stress.

BrizzleMint · 19/02/2019 07:39

It's on the side of my finger. I felt a bit under the weather like I was getting a cold with the muggy headache but nothing came of it. It's just really tingly.

I think it can do. Shingles rash is almost always confined to a smallish area on one side of the body, following the path of a nerve - for example shoulder to armpit or around waist.

BrizzleMint · 19/02/2019 10:12

Fingers crossed it stays small and doesn't get horrible then, I don't have time to be ill this week. thanks.

My DH ecezma can present like that, could be that with a coincidentally illness. Probably worth a doctor's appointment as if it is shingles you can get antivirals and if eczema the right cream to nip it in the bud.

WhoWants2Know · 19/02/2019 10:53

On the hands, it could be pompholyx (not sure of spelling). They present on the palms or sides of fingers, starting with an extreme itch followed by tiny blisters. But they clear up on their own with no other issues.

Hogtini · 19/02/2019 10:58

Mine was the shooting pain first and no rash, then rash and itchiness.

BlackInk · 19/02/2019 11:23

Sorry to Hijack your post OP, but Hogtini how long was it between pain and rash appearing for you? I've had a weird very sore patch of skin on one shoulder blade and round under the armpit since Friday (5 days). Feels a bit like bad sunburn but nothing to see.

BrizzleMint · 19/02/2019 11:27

No worries Blackink
I've stuck a plaster over it because I keep knocking it.I do get eczema but it's not like any eczema I've had before.
If it's shingles I guess I'll know soon especially as neither of the 2 DCs here have had chickenpox.

Great. Shingles is notoriously infectious.

Littlebelina · 19/02/2019 11:38

You need direct contact with the blisters to get chicken pox from shingles. If you keep it cover it should be fine but my bet is pompholyx (type of eczema)

BrizzleMint · 19/02/2019 11:40

I reckon it's more likely the pompholyx having looked it up on the NHS site, thanks for that - fingers crossed as I don't want to deal with chickenpox in teenagers.

If you can afford it might be worth getting them vaccinated? It's not nice if you are an adult

BrizzleMint · 19/02/2019 13:05

They don't do the vaccine in the UK do they?

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 19/02/2019 13:12

You can pay for it privately

Hogtini · 19/02/2019 13:17

Hi Black, I would say a short period 24-48 hours and then the blisters appeared. Hope this helps.

BlackInk · 19/02/2019 14:21

Ah thanks Hogtini, sounds like it must be something else (or nothing much) with me then as I've already had the weird pain for 5 days...

Littlebelina · 19/02/2019 18:50

www.boots.com/health-pharmacy-advice/vaccinations/chickenpox-vaccination-service

Boots do the chicken pox vaccine now but it's not cheap esp with 2 kids. We considered it for DS but he came down with it before we could. Will seriously consider it for dd when she is old enough as it was over a week off work to look after DS when he had it (although we split it)
