Peptic ulcer?

Good morning, I've just booked a call-back appointment with my GP, but wanted to ask advice here, too.

Four months ago I was diagnosed with a peptic stomach ulcer, and treated with omeprazole, lansaprazole and ranitidine to help reduce the symptoms. I was warned it would take up to three months to heal.

The pain has never gone away, it's always lurked, especially after I've eaten, but recently it's come back full-force. Doesn't matter what type of food I have, I'm in agony after a few mouthfuls and have to stop eating. Like I said, I've rung the doctor to ask their advice, but does anybody on here have any knowledge of peptic ulcers? Should it still be like this after four months??

This sounds strange. You shouldn't have been on two proton-pump inhibitors (omeprazole and lansoprazole) and an H2 histamine receptor antagonist (ranitidine) at the same time. Were these different prescriptions at different times? You're supposed to be given one drug - most likely a PPI - for 4-8 weeks and then reviewed (NICE).
Have you been tested for Helicobacter pylori? Do you take any non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (naproxen, ibuprofen, etc.)?
FWIW, the pain from peptic ulcers usually gets better when you eat, not worse, although it depends what you eat.

They were different prescriptions, one after the other.

Yep, checked for H pylori and the tests came back showing no evidence of a bacterial cause. The only medication I use is a ventolin inhaler, and that's pretty rare these days.

Pain is always worse immediately after meals, and it seems the same with any foods.

Saw my GP this afternoon, and he referred me to the gastro-enterology clinic for an endoscopy and ultrasound, as he's now concerned it could be possible gallstones. Would this add up more than an ulcer?

What sort of pain is it ? Gallbladder radiates to the back

SachaStark · 18/02/2019 19:43

Pain starts at the top of my stomach, creeps round my ribs a bit, then alternatively the bottom of my back around my tail bone or right between my shoulder blades. Sometimes a sharp, short, sudden pain in my chest.

That's his my gallbladder starts, I've had both and I'm never sure which it is.
