Vitamin D

Had my vitamin D levels tested reluctance at my doctors surgery back in November and my level came back at 25. When I rang for results nurse just said pick up a supplement in Boots.
I then saw a dietician because of other issues and she said to take D3 25 a day so I picked up some by Beeline and I think since then in November I feel a bit more energetic unless it's a placebo?
I saw the dietician again on Friday and she said not to take any higher a dose than 25 a day as a lot of people take too high a dose and also to stop in May. She did a bone test? On scales, On me and said my result was a bit low and that she will speak to my doctor to see if she thinks I need a Dexa scan. So do I need to up my vitamin D levels with a stronger dose? Dietician didn't really answer and I am worried/confused what to do ? How can I build bones back or is that even possible? Would walking help? Any advice welcome

Your levels should be 50 or above so you need a strong supplement right now. After my first pregnancy I was exhausted with aching limbs so went to the doctors, they checked my vit D and it was at 9! They put me on 20,000iu prescription tablets and within 1 week I felt like a totally new person and all of the pains went. The doctors suggested I find a good supplement and make sure I go on them through the winter months, I take Healthspans Vit D3 tablets (they also do a little oral strawberry flabroured D3 spray for my girls which they love!). These have been a godsend for me, they are so gentle and seem to be the best absorbed. So yes, I would buy these and take 2 of them for at lest 1-4 weeks so get your supply up to normal, right now you’re much lower than you should be, you’ll feel so much better for it xxx

Thanks for advice widget, I'm on 1000iu but will pick up the 2000iu and see how I get on. Wonder why the dietician told me 1000iu was enough?

@kissmelittleass

I feel you need to be warn that excessive vitamin D from supplement is dangerous www.healthline.com/health/hypervitaminosis-d

Daily use of high-dose vitamin D supplements for several months is toxic.

Supplements are not harmless. Excessive water soluble vitamins such as vitamin C will be eliminated with pee, but the others can cause more harm than good. So before you or anyone takes high levels of supplements without a medical advice based on something read on a public forum, do your own research.

You can test your vitamin D levels privately quite cheaply.

I take vitamin d all winter and stop in summer and get as much sun as I can without burning

Be careful with high dose supplements of vitamin d as you need enough magnesium

I would get them retested and use that to guide any supplement use. There are two different units for measuring vit d so it can get a bit confusing comparing strengths/guidelines if you are not careful!
