Ear Infection Tinnitus

Hi,
Not really a Mum more of an Uncle so hopefully that's allowed lol. So anyway, I've had an ear infection for about four weeks or so and had ringing/high pitch noise in my ear for about three weeks (maybe two) can't remember at this point. I've had drops, tablets etc. and on the 13th of Feb 2019 had the goop and gunk taken out of my ear at Lewisham hospital after having to chase up my Doctor to make an urgent appointment (was expected to wait 12 weeks but ended up getting an appointment within three somehow). Anyway, after the ear cleaning I was told ear canal looks healthy, drum looks healthy or as the ENT doc put it "I've made it squeaky clean for you" and now am stuck with the ringing still, I wasn't expecting it to go over night but am started to get a little scared that its going to stick.

So my main question is this, anyone out there on Mumsnet have an experience with ear infection tinnitus and if it stuck around please be honest but also gentle. I've been looking on line and most of the stories aren't helpful though some have said it went but it was a wait. All the doctors that I have seen have said that it will go in time and three (two of whom were the ENT docs) one saying that he was 98 percent sure it would go and two others saying they were sure it would go.

So anyone know if its likely to go, how long it might take. I'll add that at night it goes up and down in volume, very quiet to the point that I think its gone and have to check (I've been told not to do that) but is very loud in the early morning. So to steal a phrase from Star Wars: "Help me Mumsnet your my only hope" lol.

Hi, sadly I don’t have any real helpful advice. I am also in the same boat.
A week ago a ringing started in my ear, the doctor said it was impacted so had it cleaned out today. No reduction in ringing and pain. I am on amoxicillin as also have an infection in the ear, I feel like it’s in the other ear too now.
The doctor seems to think it will subside but google and other comments seems to think it won’t. It’s a very hard thing to try to stay positive through, I hope yours gets better x

Hi,

No mine never left BUT don't let that worry you. Everyone is different and every ear infection can be different and even if you end up with tinnitus you can and will live with it. Mine is just in one ear too (left) and at first it was a struggle to deal with and felt like I couldn't continue but you do learn to live with it.

My first piece of advice would be to stop hoping that it goes away. I did that every night. I would go to sleep hoping that when I woke up it would be gone and because it never went I was constantly waking up and being in low mood and soon depression kicked in. There are ways to live with it, ways to learn to cope. I've had it five years now and I'm pushing forward and living.
My second advice: Ignore all the online cures. There isn't a cure. People have spent thousands myself included trying to pay for cures and the only result I got from it was a lighter bank account. There currently is no cure. So please don't spend money on it.
The same goes with "life style" changes. I haven't changed anything including eating habits because Tinnitus already sucks so why would I let it stop me from eating anything I ate before.
I'm always happy to chat if you need to you're welcome to reply or message me and I'll reply. Trust me Tinnitus is not the end of your life it's just a hurdle.
