Mirena experiences .

I had one fitted last thursday and started spotting on the sunday. Since then I have been bleeding lightly. I was wondering when I can expect this to tail off?
if it's relevant I am 51 and was still having monthly periods, although the spacing was becoming more erratic. I had this one fitted 2 weeks after my last period. Could this be my next period?

It could be your next period, though most likely spotting caused by your body adjusting to the increase in progesterone. When I first had the mirena (at 46) I had random spotting for a good 4 months, it's quite hit and miss some women spot for a long time others not at all. I have to say I love my mirena I have gone from horrendous peri periods which made me dangerously anemic to no periods at all for 3 years which has transformed my health for the better. My only advice is to bear with it until the hormones level off.

Quite a similar experience to Rosie. Mine is still fairly new, but I had spotting on the day of fitting, then nothing for a week and my next period came when due about a week later. It was a bit lighter than it would have been (I was also having horrendous, flooding everywhere peri periods), but I then had light bleeding / spotting for ages - about 8 weeks IIRC. That finally stopped, and since then I’ve had a couple of light periods (much lighter!) and a longer cycle (28 days as opposed to 18-21). I’m really hoping that these tail off completely.

Thank you.
You read such awful stories everywhere- people do like share their horrors rather than the successes.
My periods were always light anyway so i’m Hoping this bleeding will ease off soon.
Also like the idea that it can be used as part of HRT at some point if I feel I need that.

I had very slight bleeding which gradually tailed off over the first few months. Since then, nothing. It stopped my periods completely which was a huge relief.

I've had a Mirena for 2.5 years (I'm 45). I had it fitted for short, erratic cycles and it hasn't exactly fixed those, but my periods now are very light and my PMS is also a lot less significant. I would say bear with the settling in period, which can go on for several months. Just try and roll with it, because initially I wasn't sure about mine, but now I wouldn't be without it. It has levelled out my moods, it's chilled me out and while my periods are still erratic and my cycle is still (mostly) around 23 days, I've decided I can live with it. But could this be your next period? It could, but equally it could just be spotting.

I know- there are no answers which is frustrating.
I am in a newish relationship after years as a single parent in the desert and am worried about my new sex life!

The cramping hasn't been very nice and my normal painkillers don't really touch it. It doesn't even feel like period cramps. I know it is the progesterone as I had very similar pains when I briefly tried HRT and the progesterone part left me in agony.
The pain has eased off this evening as has the bleeding.

I'm hopeful this episode of bleeding and spotting is coming to an end now. Can't see how I could now have a period in a week's time as I won't have anything left to have a period with!

I had mine put in December 2016 and had spotting and light periods until about March 2017 with no bleeding since.

I had mine put in 12 weeks after giving birth and had two episodes of cramping, one about 5 or so days later and one more a few weeks later, it was exactly the same as contractions, lasted around a half an hour and eventually just tailed off. Luckily haven't had anything like it since

I’ve had 40 years of periods now so would rather like them to stop! This should see me through to menopause if i’m Lucky!
Thanks for all your input. I read such horror stories.
