Eye tests for glaucoma

Anyone know what's involved?

Got an appointment at the eye hospital on Wednesday. Have been referred due to failing the test for peripheral vision on 3 separate tests. I also have a 'nasal step'. Mum had glaucoma, controlled by eyedrops.

Hospital letter says be prepared for a wait as you have to have different tests. Also, one of the tests involve having drops which can make eyesight blurry for hours afterwards.

So my question is: what are these tests and what do they involve?

Usually they will check the amount of letters you can see on the chart, put some numbing drops in the eye and check pressure and your corneal drainage angle. Do another visual field test and then out drops in to make your pupils bigger to have a good look at the optic nerve the back of the eye. The drops can have a side effect of making your vision blurred, so you don't want to be driving home afterwards.

The most basic test is done at the regular opticians, I have it most times as glaucoma runs in our family. It is a puff of air to the eyeball, and is a pressure test.

What is a nasal step?

it's a visual field scotoma - so a wedge shaped bit in your nasal visual field where you can't see properly. It can occur if you have glaucoma.

Thank you. Had all the tests today, was at the hospital for 3 and half hours. Got the all clear SmileThe blurry vision/light sensitivity lasted for about 5 hours.
