Sprained ankle... anyone experienced cramp feeling under the foot?

I sprained my ankle by falling down the stairs a week last Tuesday. It's still swollen and bruised and I have very limited movement. I can't weight bear at all. The main pain/discomfort is underneath the foot... it feels like when you get cramp and it goes into spasm... but this feeling never goes away?
Has anyone had this feeling with a sprained ankle? I've been to the doctors and was told to rest and go back in a week if no better. I've never sprained anything before so not sure what the norm is but expected to be able to hobble on it by now or to be able to move it more?
Was given cocodamol but felt really unwell this morning after taking it yesterday so trying to avoid it.
Thanks in advance

Have you had it x rayed?
I ask because I had a fall last year and twisted my foot. It swelled and bruised but I could just about walk on it. I followed the advice on NHS website - elevate, ice pack etc. but after a week it was still painful and I rang 111 for advice. They sent me to A&E where I got raised eyebrows for not going sooner. I had broken a bone in my foot. (Right metatarsal).
I had pain under the foot as well as on the top. The bruising went from toe to ankle.

Feet are complex mechanical structures containing 26 bones, 33 joints and more than a hundred muscles, tendons, and ligaments. As previously advised go and see the experts.

Blush Gosh, you're making me feel bad now. I badly sprained my ankle on holiday over a year ago and still get pain in the bottom of my foot, especially when running. Maybe i should have it checked out? I didn't at the time as i was in rural Thailand.

In your case lifestooshortandsoami i'd probably go and get it seen.

I sprained mine over a year ago , I still get cramping in the foot , I used to get cramoing all down the shin too. I didnt go for an xray until sometime afterwards and it turns out the when the ligament got stretched some bone pinged off and i have fragments floating about in the joint . I have had to give up wearing high heels and even low heels that are thin as even if i try to wear them now the pain is horrendous

Thanks all. The thing is they did do an x ray and said nothing broken? And I've been back to the docs since then.... guess I'll have to admit defeat and go back again (I keep waking up thinking maybe till feel lots better today but it doesn't!).

@WhathaveIfound from what everyone's saying it's more than likely the ligaments but maybe get it double checked?

I honestly thought I'd be walking round by now but still can't put any weight on it at all Sad

Sounds like plantar fasciitis very common and very painful! Deffo go see an expert

Definitely push for them to double check it. You may need physio or something. I was eventually referred for physio about a year after I sprained my ankle, it turned out I'd torn a loan of ligaments right right out, which was why I couldn't bear any weight for ages. If they'd sent me for physio sooner it would have healed better - it never healed properly & I still have a slightly thicker & weaker ankle now, more than a decade later.

Sorry for a late update..... after eventually being referred back to a and e after visiting the doctors a further two times they discovered I've also fractured a bone in my foot, in addition to the sprained ankle and damaged ligaments. also possible nerve damage. So I have now have a walking boot on, crutches and not allowed to weight bear. Also have to do daily injections to prevent dvt as not moving much. So all good fun! Still not back at work and unsure when I will be able to go back as still very painful Sad
