Possible optic nerve issue...

So I've worn glasses for 33 years, I went for a routine eye test yesterday and the optometrist seemed concerned regarding the picture they take behind your eyes. Something about the margins not being defined, he got his supervisor to look and they've referred me, said I'll receive an eye specialist appointment within 2 weeks. I've had this picture taken many times on routine eye tests previously and always had the 'your eyes are healthy' so this is a bit of a shock really. Anyone any experiences of this? I'm currently 25 weeks pregnant too and stupidly googled so now worrying of course. Thanks so much.

Hello op. I know it's tempting but please don't Google! The backs of both my eyes looked like that when I had optic neuritis (it was one of many signs that i have MS, which is perhaps one of the things your Google search brought up) In my case, it was being investigated as I already had a lot of other physical and visual symptoms and pain and had lost quite a lot of vision in both eyes. So it may be that just the image of the back of your eye, in isolation is nothing to worry about. I've heard people say that their eyesight and prescription for glasses can alter during pregnancy, so it could well be an isolated thing that's pregnancy related? My own experience is not intended to worry you, by the way, but i can imagine that its one of the things google came up with.Best wishes

And I've just remembered...sinus problems can cause this to happen to the optic nerve too.

It could be Drusens which from my understanding can mimic blurred margins. And yes they do see you quickly but it's not anything to worry about.

And the 2 week appointment window is reassuring too. I was told to go to the hospital opthamologist immediately, due to the visual problems I was having.
