Having a hip replacement- any advice???

No joke- have a 7 month old and am scheduled for a total hip replacement in about a month. Has anyone else had any sort of major surgery with a little one?

Am positive about having the operation as my mobility is deteriorating and my quality of life will be so much better afterwards but I am anxious about coping while recovering!!

Any any tips or ideas would be massively appreciated!!! Smile

I was 29 when I had mine. Im Now in my 50's and it's still as good as the day it was done.
My children were 2, 4 and 7 at the time.
I was in for 7 days which was a speedy discharge In Those days, most people were in for 14 days but nowadays you'll be home in no time. I had 2 sticks and had to have a raised toilet seat, I also added extra cushions to a comfortable chair with arms and that was a godsend. I had a triangular wedge for between my knees in bed. I couldn't drive for 6 weeks.
It changed my life. I was registered Disabled, and used a wheelchair prior to the op.
I'd been in excruciating paid for so long, and the new hip really did up my quality of life.
I hope this helps x x

That’s great thank you for replying! There’s not much out there about people who’ve had it done young so that’s really reassuring!

Hi I had a hip replacement at 39 a year ago and happy to answer any of your questions? There are quite a lot of FB groups which you can join with more knowledge on them than most GPs know!

I had my first hip replacement ages 37 with three young kids 9,6 and 5.
I strongly advise you to get proper help for the first three weeks. After that you will be able to do the basics. You will still need help with the baby until around wk 6. As you can’t bend.
After that you won’t look back. It is life changing. Good luck and get lots and lots of help!
