Hi has anyone noticed a link between a asquint developing after the MMR? My baby developed a squint 10 days after her first MMR. im convinced it is linked to MMR but no medic will confirm this.

Never heard of this but both my kids had a squint that was only discovered when they started school. They were not obvious ones only picked up by the ophtlsmic nurse that came to do the checks.

I would have thought a direct link would have been identified by now especially after all the attention the vaccin got after allegation of causality with autism.

I think that is a very strange idea

Skimmedmilk1 · 04/02/2019 06:01

There's no link.

No.

My HV advised that that age and onwards is where you might start to notice a squint though as they're doing more things involving focusing on smaller details.

The measles is known to cause blindness and can affect the back of the eye especially the retina and cause inflammation of the blood vessels and optic nerve, so that’s why I didn’t think it was that strange that the measles part of the vaccine would also affect the eye.

You will probably find the squint relates to refractive issues e.g. long sight, rather than issues with optic nerves/ muscles. I noticed my dd squinting at 18 months and she was found to be long sighted and got glasses (Still wears them age 15)

Do you yet know what kind of squint your DC has?

squifflybobs · 07/02/2019 03:06

As others have said- what's the cause of your child's squint? They are usually caused by strabismus ( an eye muscle issue) or an eyesight issue ( eg long sightedness).

These are quite different from the eye nerve palsy referenced in the article so an answer on this will help

I have a squint myself, as does my son. Both from different causes and nothing to do with MMR ( I am way too old to have had it)
