Labarynthitis

FTFF · 03/02/2019 17:25

After a quick google I think I have labarynthitis,
I've never had it before so I can be 100% sure. It started with what I thought was a migraine (sore head that made me sick and I had to lie down)

Now I feel fuzzy headed and a bit drunk (head feels wobbly and I'm a bit queasy) can't really eat or drink without feeling sick and can't really move too quickly.

I also can't stand smells, still got a slight headache and had a bit of a dodgy stomach along with having heartburn which doesn't really fit in with the online symptoms.

Are there any miracle cures? Do I need a Dr appointment?

Travel sickness tablets are supposed to be quite effective with ear problems. But not sure that's what yours is. I'd phone 111 and ask for advice

Usually with labyrithitis you feel dizzy and have that 'room spinning' feeling. Is that how you feel? If so toddlertea is right, and travel sickness tablets may well help.

MyOldBrainStoppedWorking · 03/02/2019 21:09

I've had it. I couldn't lie down as the room would spin like I was very drunk. Made me feel sick.
Luckily it cleared after a couple of days.
There is an exercise you can do to help. Involves sitting then turning your head to the side then lying down. And repeating about 10 times.
If you Google it then you'll find it.
I didn't go to the doctor's as it went away before I could get an appointment. But it has happened about 3 times now.
Probably worth a doctor's appointment to check any underlying causes.

Thank you. I do feel very dizzy which is making me feel awful. I only feel ok when I wake up for about 20mins then it all starts again.

Reading a bit more and I'm not fully convinced it's only labarynthitis. MIL, who's had it twice, thinks it might be a viral thing that's possibly affecting my ears.

I'll try motion sickness tablets in a couple of days if it's still hanging about. I just don't do ill very well

I have had labyrinthitis. I was lying in bed completely stable and still when the room began spinning and I felt that I was falling, even though I couldn't fall and I wasn't

It was extreme loss of any sense of balance and took a while to settle. For weeks afterwards I felt as though I was on a boat that was rocking, sometimes quite violently.

I think it is actually usually viral. It is an infection of the balance organs in the ears.

Whatever you have, I hope you improve soon.

helpmepleasee · 03/02/2019 22:16

@FTFF I am just getting over this now! I would buy Stugeron from the pharmacy if you can - or send someone for you. It helped just enough to make it bearable. It's a horrible feeling, I hope you feel better soon.

If you're really worried and can't tell what it is at all, I'd phone 111 for advice.

safariboot · 03/02/2019 22:39

I had it once. Yeah, strong vertigo, and motion sickness symptoms as a result of that. I don't remember if the doctor prescribed anything, but I spent most of the week lying in bed with my eyes closed listening to the radio, in order to keep the sickness away.

Tailfeather · 03/02/2019 22:44

How long have you been feeling like this? (And sorry you do - it is simply the worst feeling).

SpoonBlender · 03/02/2019 22:47

Much sympathy! I occasionally get taken out by this, it's always a viral cold-type thing that triggers it for me. Or occasionally drunkenness, but it's expected then...

I was prescribed stemetil once when it was particularly awful. One pill knocked it off for a week, it was excellent. Over the counter seasickness pills may work, ask in the chemist.

Dodie66 · 03/02/2019 22:48

I’ve had it but did get checked out by the GP. If you had a migraine before it might be a good idea to get it checked. Call 111 for advice

Curunina · 03/02/2019 22:52

It's a horrible thing- but this works if you do it a few times. Good luck!

Are you sure you’re not pregnant?

FTFF · 03/02/2019 23:45

Definitely not pregnant, if you feel like this when you are I definitely don't fancy that much!

I've been like this since Friday, I'd say today is definitely the worst for the spinning/dizziness. It comes in waves of being awful then dies down a bit have to do a lot of deep breathing and holding my breath seems to help a bit. Lying on my left
Side seems to help so trying not to move too much.

I'll try and get some of the Motion sickness stuff tomorrow. My GP is horrendous to get an appointment so I'll try and ride it out for a day or two and see how I go.

Thank you for the video link, I'll give that a try when it settles a bit.
