Anyone else have vague cycle-related stomach probs?

I seem to find that a good ten days before my period, I get all bloated and uncomfortable in a digestive, rather than gynae way... (sorry if it's TMI) also a bit constipated and just generally not right.
I worry a bit about things I've heard about ovarian cancer, because apparently it can go undetected for ages. I don't really have any other symptoms, although I do have a sensitive sort of stomach as a rule and it doesn't take much to cause probs.
Would be so grateful for any info anyone has or similar experiences.
Thanks.

I seem to get irritable bowel syndrome at the time of ovulation - I discussed this with my GP, and she examined me, and doesn't think there is anything to worry about.

I suggest you make a GP appointment for when you predict you will have these problems - hopefully you will be reassured

hah - my infallible sign of approaching period was always lots of farting and diarrhoea. Tis hormone-related, they tell me, like constipation in pregnancy .

me too, at what i assume is ovulation time. have to be more careful with my diet for a few days and sometimes use fybogel sachets.

Oh thanks so much everyone. I also believe it is at ovulation time but when I once suggested this to the GP, she looked at me as though I was mad and said she had never heard this before. I have already had a cursory examination, Belgo, and was reassured at the time, but my latent paranoia has taken over again! She was very understanding about the ovarian cancer fear (I have no relatives with it, and am just a bit hypochondriac numpty)and she said that painful sex was often a worrying giveaway.
Have any of you kept a proper record, just to be sure? Think I might start noting actual dates.
Thanks for these very reassuring thoughts anyway.

I definitely get more IBS and disgestive type symptoms around ovulation time. Also get alot of sharp pain in either or both sides as well so I know when I'm ovulating IKYWIM.

I have never mentioned the ovulation pain to the GP just put up with it over many years.

I think GPs often look at you as if you are mad when you suggest something that is perfectly reasonable but not within their radar. But you know your body best of all.

Am sure it would be worth noting to see if there is a pattern.

Yes, every couple of months I get very bad cramping pains in my stomach, very very painful. I am bent double with them and the only way I can get rid of them is if I lie flat for an hour. I did not link it to ovulation at all but I went to the GP and she said it is to do with an increase in progesterone. I used to get severe nausea with it too but don't anymore. It got better after the birth of ds2 but now they are back, but not every month. I really do believe its a hormonal thing but why it varies month by month I don't know. Its a total PITA !

I get ibs flare ups immediately before and during my period.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 04/07/2007 07:18

Endometriosis cannot be ruled out particularly if periods as well are very painful. These deposits can get onto the intestinal walls causing pain. Know of many women who have been misdiagnosed with IBS when infact endometriosis has been to blame for their problems.

Bosscat - I would consider seeing a gynae if this continues.

Katymac · 04/07/2007 07:25

My DH is aware & comment's that my digestion gets much more "uncertain" both when I ovulate and when my period starts

I get constipated at ovulation & d?? (how ever you spell it) with my period

I have IBS so I do keep careful track of what is going on as i control my IBS by diet

venusinfurs · 04/07/2007 09:51

It's very reassuring to hear all this, so thanks everyone. I also had a dull pain on the right side last night (gone away now) and I looked up 'ovulation pain' on the Internet and it suggested this was very common, particularly on the right.
Attilla, I have a close rel who had endometriosis and also an ectopic pregnancy.
Bosscat, are the pains a while before your period, or more directly linked?
Don't know if anyone else has found they have more PMS symptoms as they hit late 30s/early 40s...bit like a mini-pregnancy sometimes and even have the pregno sensitivity to smells!
