Recurring Impetigo

DD had impetigo for the first time seven weeks ago. I used fusidic acid and it went completely. It has reoccured twice now, four weeks ago and again last week. Has anyone had this? It does go when I use the fusidic acid, but I don't want this to become a regular occurence.

sounds like she's being reinfected - school / nursery? towels? someone else in the family who hasn't noticed they have it?

Vinegar · 03/07/2007 13:56

MrsKrabadger - Neither dh or I have it. I wash the towels weekly so presumably not that? Not sure about school, but haven't noticed anyone in her class with it, so don't think it is that....

Have a search on here for threads on impetigo, I remember Mellowma and Sophable having some really good homeopathic treatment. My ds had it several times last year to the point where we were giving him antibiotics every other week which were really upsetting his system. Then tried the homeopathy and it hasn't come back since thank goodness.

Groveregg what homeopathic treatment did you try with your ds? I would be interested in trying something like that for dd if she get it again.

Just did a search to remind myself, it is graphites 30c and hepar sulph 30c, 3 times a day until it clears up. My ds (who we had to pin screaming to the ground for antibiotics) loved the tablets as they were sweet.

Thanks for that Grovergg, I will try that if dd gets it again.

Thats the right groveregg.

Few more tips for recurrent impetigo:

Keep fingernails very short at all times.

The bacteria actually lies in the lining of the nose so using cotton bud morning and evening put a little savlon just around the end of their nose (or any antisceptic.

Keep hands clean.

A dettol bath now and again.

Try to keep her away from her nose (impossible?)

Just wanted to say it might not be impetigo. My ds1 got it from a friend when he was about 3.5. We used fucidin to clear it up. Since then (and he is almost 6) it has reoccured frequently. We always asumed it was impetigo, but more recent trips to a dermatologist for his excema have confirmed that it is not. There are other things that look the same. In his case anyway, the dry skin was cracking (not noticably) and allowing bacteria in.

Just thought I would mention it. In our case, constant moisturising has finally kept it at bay.

Funnily enough Ds has very dry skin.

I had to vaseline him today (face)
