Is this athlete’s foot?!

Sorry if TMI 😳 Have had itching between little toe and fourth toe, and a white patch of skin but it’s soft, not cracked. I thought it might be athlete’s foot so bought some lamisil and put that on last night, then it was much more itchy but I’ve just had a look at it and peeled off the white skin which came off easily, not flaky, and the skin underneath looks ok. Does this sound like athlete’s foot or just some peeling skin and I’m fussing over nothing?

Sounds exactly like it. And for future reference, if you don't want to buy specific athlete's foot treatment, you can use thrush cream if you have it. I always have a tube of canesten (or it's generic equivalent) knocking about the medicines cupboard. It does the same job.

Thank you - will carry on with the cream then!

yep. pretty classic case.

to prevent it spreading around the family don't walk barefoot. wash all towels and bath mat at 60. change socks daily.

dry the skin between toes properly after washing.

Thank you - if the skin is ok underneath does that mean it’s going? (Hopeful face!)

No, the skin will be ok underneath generally anyway, as a foot health specialist the only product I recommend for athletes foot is lamisil once, not plain lamisil, lamisil once, one application and it will be gone, no need to apply creams every day, which tbh are less effective as they come off easily.

Does sound like it, I agree that Lamisil once is very good.

If you are suffering small blisters followed by flaking skin in other areas of the feet then look at dyshidrotic eczema. This is often misdiagnosed as athletes foot.

Oh! Missed the bit from Madbengalmum about being a foot health specialist, in which case Ignore me & listen to her Grin

I always dry between my toes with a hairdryer on cool setting. It's the only way I can get properly dry and has cut down massively on the horrible athletes foot
