Chest infection and pelvic floor

So, I've had two kids and did all my exercises/kegels whatnot but I've developed a chest infection/flu and every time I cough I keep leaking. Have I broken my pelvic floor or is this likely to be from forceful coughing and muscle weakness. It's so embarrassing and I have no idea what I am meant to do. Sad

pads, clench when coughing, keep doing pelvic floor exercises...

see the Gp if it is not getting better.

No advice OP just some solidarity as I’ve had the same over the last few weeks Flowers I’ve been emptying my bladder very often even when I haven’t got the urge to go, plus making sure to clench all abdominal and pelvic floor muscles just before coughing. And loads of clenching/Kegels in between.

Thanks everyone. It's just really shocked me. I shoved a packet of Tena lady into my Ocado order and have been clenching like nobody's business. Hoping as I regain some strength it'll stop. Sad

Me too, have to stop and cross my legs every time I sneeze! I find it's okay at the beginning of an illness but somehow as it goes on it gets worse. When I used to run, I found wearing a tampon stopped me from leaking, it's not a great solution but it might work if you're only getting it occasionally.

Amaris, how did a tampon stop you leaking pee?

I think it's something to do with propping up the bladder wall, it's a fairly commonly used tactic amongst female runners, it's not just me!

Sadly, I think this is common when you have a cold / flu/ chest infection & you've given birth. Doesn't seem to matter IME if you've done your pelvic floor exercises. I usually have to wear a sanitary towel to catch any small leaks when I'm ill.

That's interesting! I had no idea.
