Hypermobile hands

I'm so fed up. I'm in so much pain.

I have pain in my thumb, wrist, and finger. I struggle to do much at all before the pain becomes unbearable and I can't use my hand. I also have pain in my elbow.

I've been to the GP a few times but they just give me codeine and send me on my way. They say I'm hypermobile and have low muscle tone and there isn't anything they can do. They referred me to physio who also said the problem is being hypermobile they gave me splints, told me to rest and do Pilates. I'm not sure Pilates will benefit my hands, my core yes, but not my hands.

I'm struggling so much though as everything requires the use of your hands! I can barely grip a pen and I'm at uni, so I can't make notes. I'm struggling with the steering wheel of the car. And I can't hold heavy objects. Cleaning the house is another exacerbating factor. It's getting me really down.

Anybody got any advice? I just want this pain gone and to be able to use my hands!

You need to find some hand strengthening exercises look at you tube videos. I have hypermobile joints and strengthening is the only way to minimise the pain. You can get balls to squeeze and strengthen the muscles. Also a pair of fingerless gloves from amazon for arthritis seem to hold my joints. Elbow compression sleeves also helpful. Physio's I have seen many are useless. Self management is the key.

Painkillers the best is to take them regularly maximum every day for 2-3 weeks. Paracetamol best for me. Nurofen/naproxen doesn't work on many of us with hypermobile joints. Gabapentin/lyrica stronger painkillers have very strong side effects for me but commonly used by those with hyper mobility to control the pain.
