Mid December I went ice skating and was knocked over by another skater. It was a comedy legs in the air type fall that resulted in me landing on the back of my head.

I was checked out at the time by first aiders, clear fluid came out my nose (I didn't have a cold) and I felt wobbly but we were in a city with 3dc so I did the Mum thing of saying "I'm fine" a lot. We got home very late so I took paracetamol and went to sleep. Next morning I wasn't right so Dh drove me to A&E (as instructed by first aiders at ice rink).

CT scan was clear and I was diagnosed with severe concussion. I was forgetful and using the wrong words for about 3 weeks.

Now I still don't feel 100%. I'm not as sharp as previously and I'm still tender/bruised where the bump was and there is a small dent.

Should I be worried or have I been checked over so ignore it?

I know someone at work got post concussion syndrome. She thought she had MS! She’s getting better now but it was a good few months in total. Do go and see your gp, you should have investigations.

Hello OP, I had post concussion syndrome for about 6 months after a mild traumatic brain injury in 2015. It was bloody awful and gave me severe anxiety and a mental breakdown- after which I got a drug induced involuntary movement disorder called tardive dyskinesia from an antipsychotic I was prescribed.

Sorry you are suffering. I hope that I haven’t scared you by telling you about what I went through - it wasn’t meant to make you worry, so sorry if it did! Blush

I’m just empathising and saying I know exactly what post concussion syndrome symptoms are like, and that it is really just a matter of time and ensuring you rest your brain enough properly for it to heal. Lots of sleep, reducing stimulation, no driving, good sleep, a clean diet and good nutrition, and low stress will all contribute to you being better and recovering a lot sooner.

These are all things that I wish I had been told about 4 years ago. I’m sure it would have aided in my recovery. I honestly felt like I had some kind of dementia and I went from doctor to doctor trying to find someone who could help me. Only one out of hours A&E doctor told me it was post concussion syndrome, and even then, there still wasn’t much they could do. I was given a lot of psychotropic drugs including zopiclone and diazepam to help me sleep and reduce anxiety. They did help somewhat but I feel that mindfulness and being more relaxed would have benefitted me more.

You WILL be ok as others have said. I was fine in the end, but it was probably the most unwell I have ever been. You have my utmost sympathy for your condition- it is very much an ‘invisible’ illness and one doctors don’t understand or know enough about.

Best of luck with it all in your recovery. I’m sure you will be ok.Flowers
