My word - don't head wounds bleed a lot!

DS1 and 2 had a fight with plastic rulers this morning - DS2 (3) started it but unfortunately DS1 (5) finished it when he managed to catch DS2 above the eye (just above the brow) with the corner of his weapon. Hearing the screams i wandered in assuming it was just the usual bickering to sort out. DS2 took his hand away from his eye and screamed "blood! There's blood!".

And how right he was! We've patched him up with seri strips and a plaster and it stopped bleeding fairly quickly.

As he's not sleepy, sluggish, has no headache or swelling and has stopped bleeding, I assume I don't need to cart him off to A&E?

Assuming it's just a surface scratch and it's stopped bleeding then I wouldn't bother with A&E. HTH!

I wouldn't think so Soups, if all the other signs are good, and it isn't deep. Many years ago, when I worked (my first job actually), a lady came out of the loos covered in blood, I mean it was all down her face, neck, clothes. I though she had been attacked. Turned out she had bumped her head on a corner near the sink when washing her hands, and when I cleaned her up the cut was only about a centimetre long. Took her to hospital anyway, and the doc there said that the scalp has LOADS of blood vessels, which is why it looks horrific, but is generally not. Hth.

I didn't look at it TBH - just slapped the seri strips on as quick as I could and covered them with a plaste whilst DH cleaned the blood off DS2s hands and face. It looked like a right angled dent - exactly the shape you'd expect from the corner of a plastic ruler.

I think he's fine - he's been running abot like a loony in and out of the paddling pool and there's no new blood.

Boys! Pah!

Sorry, I had to reread that, I thought you said you had covered it with a plate!

Glad he seems ok now.

Crikey - you sound calm under pressure SoupDragon! My boys have hysterics at the sight of blood, and I'm not much better.

I hope they're OK now and playing peaceably? (Dh has just carted ours off to the swingpark because I've had enough of them.)

SoupDragon · 05/09/2004 15:29

Yes, Lou, I smacked him over the head with a plate to take his mind off the original injury

Roisin, blood I can cope with! I think it's because there are usually practical things you can do to help and they take your mind off it. As for playing peacefully - as peacefully as 2 boys ever do I guess!
