Hayfever & allergy remedies

My partner suffers terribly with hayfever & pet allergies. He's been tested for a number of common allergens & reacted to everything apart from salt water :(
He's tried all the different antihistamine meds, neti pot, ACV etc but nothing seems to really help and it makes him not want to leave the house on a high pollen day as he feels so terrible. He was told a few years ago the injection available for hayfever wasn't an option for him as he also has asthma.
I would love to know what has worked for anyone else if anyone has any advice? I've been looking into hepa air filters for the house but obviously that would only help when he's at home if it works.
Thanks!

steroid nasal spray (beconase and similar)
gamechanger for me.

Bubblesandpop · 21/01/2019 12:14

Thanks @greenelephantscarf ! He does use a nasal spray but I'll check what type & look into switching :)

I once had steroid tablets to get me through some important exams and they seemed to reset my immune system response. I still get hayfever but to a much, much lesser extent. You can’t be on the tablets long term, but just that fairly short course worked wonders for me.

That's so interesting @ImNotKitten ! Thanks for the info.

fexofenadine 180 amazing stuff but only on prescription
But realky a chat to the GP and maybe a referral to immunology will help the most.

Thanks @incywincybitofa Yes I think he definitely needs to go back to the doctors and at least now he has a few ideas from here on what options there could be.

Another suggestion for a steroid nasal spray. I use this over the key hay fever month but also take anti-allergy tablets most of the year too. I can't dry clothes outside and regularly hoover/dust/change bedding etc as I have a dust allergy too.

IWouldLikeToKnow · 23/01/2019 18:56

Yep, definitely sounds like he needs an intranasal steroid like the one mentioned above. After the next pollen season, if there is no improvement whilst using it daily, he could look into immunotherapy. He would need to under the care of a clinic for this.

incywincybitofa · 23/01/2019 23:37

As op mentioned a lot of immunotherapy treatment is excluded if you have moderate to severe asthma.

Bubblesandpop · 24/01/2019 00:44

Thank you for all the replies, we'll look into all of that. His asthma seems to have settled over the last couple of years so I wonder if they will now consider him for immunotherapy, fingers crossed!
