Piles!

I'm hoping for positive stories as I'm feeling rather desperate and also embarrassed....I have had piles for 2-3 months, maybe longer and have just completed a second course of anusol suppositories and am still bleeding and in pain when going to the toilet. Despite 3 pregnancies I've never had them before (now late 40s and post menopause). Has anyone tried anything other than anusol which has helped? I've been to the GP and they seem sure that's what it is

Ask for a referral to have them removed. I had two removed by banding years ago and have been haemorrhoid free ever since.
Can't say I cared for the procedure much mind you. Was in agony for two days afterwards. It was worth it though, in the long run.

Thanks for your reply. I guess I need to get back to the GP. I've heard about banding but I'm frankly terrified at the prospect!

The procedure itself doesn't hurt - it's just undignified and embarrassing. But about an hour afterwards my rear started throbbing like I'd been torn limb from limb. They didn't warn me that might happen, or give me any painkillers. I went straight to the GP, who was horrified they hadn't given me painkillers to bring home, and he gave me some strong anti-inflammatories and advice to spend lots of time sitting in a warm (not hot) bath. It started getting better after about 12 hours and I was fine after 2 days.

There's a steroid cream and suppository the Gp can prescribe which is amazing.

theresaspiderinthesink · 19/01/2019 18:16

I really sang remember it's name but it cleared them up very quickly

porolli · 19/01/2019 18:23

That would be amazing, I was so hoping there was something else I could try...

Depends how big but I found witch hazel gel really good. It smarts a bit at first but does shrink them back super quick.

Best thing I did tho was loose weight and take regular exercise. I hardly ever suffer now unless my ins kicks in.

madeyemoodysmum · 19/01/2019 18:26

Ibs I mean

theresaspiderinthesink · 19/01/2019 18:29

Ah ha! Proctosedyl

I have an external one but that isn't a big issue, it just gets large. The sore internal ones would get better in days. However it's working out what's triggering them - eg constipation. When my thyroid levels are low I get constipated which is what caused them for me.

binkybea · 19/01/2019 18:33

I had mine banded & they came back Sad

However I have changed my diet (more water, fruit, veg & fibre ) and it has really helped.

Thanks for the name - well remembered! I'll see if I can get hold of that and will try witch hazel too. I honestly don't know what triggered mine. I haven't been constipated and although I could do with losing a few pounds (and am trying), I have a BMI of 25 so not much overweight. It's really making me miserable. I don't know if it's menopause related 🙁

My bum is 24.9 op so I’d guess your weight isn’t causing it. It’s awful tho.

BayandBlonde · 19/01/2019 21:26

I am a pile suffer, not overweight but used to be a female bodybuilder.

Squatting with a heavy weight caused mine, I found warm baths, anti inflammatories, and regularly popping them back in helped.

Ivegotthree · 19/01/2019 21:38

I got a pile a week ago from doing the plank! I'm not overweight at all, eat healthily, run and cycle regularly, and am never constipated.

But a week ago I was doing the plank every day for a minute to strengthen my core and I got a fucking pile. Horrendous.

It is still there now but smaller. I've used a whole pack of Anusol suppositories and think they helped. Bloody hope it goes away fully though. I stopped running for a bit in case that was making it worse but I can't not run so I've gone back to it.
