I wet the bed this morning!

Bit embarrassing but there you go. I haven't wet the bed since I was a child. I'm now in my 30s.Last night I woke up around 4am, knew I needed a wee but fell back into a heavy sleep. Woke myself around 7am by weeing! When I realised what I was doing I stopped it and went to the loo to finish my wee.

Surely this is not usual? I did have a baby a couple of years ago but haven't suffered pelvic floor weakness or anything. I had GD during that pregnancy and have to be tested yearly for diabetes, the most recent test last summer was fine.

What now? Will I just wait and see if it happens again?

A one off really is nothing to worry about. Especially with the fact that you'd woken earlier with a full bladder and not dealt with it. You had most likely just let your bladder get too full.

If you're showing any symptoms at all of a UTI - increased frequency, odd sensation or pain when urinating or a general feeling unwell then do pop to the GP for a urine dip.

If it's any consolation, I've peed myself twice this week. Turns out I have a UTI. First time at home, second time on my way to work. I came home 😑

Might be worth a phonecall to the GP?

I'm lucky that our surgery have a set up where you can just pop in, ask for a urine pot, use the loo there (or take it home if the patient is housebound) then fill in a questionnaire about symptoms. A Practice Nurse dip tests it during the day and you get a phonecall with a treatment plan. They sent an antibiotic prescription to the chemist for me. No need for an appointment or anything.

Should have said, lots of other symptoms developed fast after the first incident - peeing every 5 mins, sore lower back, sore belly, urgency with every pee, sore to pee, no blood in the urine but pink / orangey when wiping etc.

A one off could be a dream?
I mean you dreamt you were peeing so you did.

Justbackfromnewwine · 18/01/2019 10:10

If you’re otherwise well then it’s probably just a one off. I’m a heavy sleeper with vivid dreams, prone to sleep talking and occasionally sleep walking and in my adult life this has happened once or twice. Went back to sleep but dreamed I’d got up and was on the toilet. If it happens again then I’d make an appointment.

Thank you everyone I feel reassured. Is everyone secretly going around peeing the bed and not talking about it Grin no symptoms of a UTI so far but will keep a look out. I was actually dreaming that I was peeing while I was peeing Blush

I did it when I was 18. Woke up needing the loo but didn’t go. Went back to sleep and had a dream I was having a wee. Except it wasn’t just a dream. I was mortified, but it hasn’t happened since, and I still fall back to sleep when needing a wee.

Always dream about trying to find a toilet when I need to pee in real life. Have definitely started a few times and woken up to an embarrassing situation!

I remember I wet the bed a few years ago. I was dreaming about going toilet for a wee and when I woke up, I felt a hot/wet sensation, and instantly knew I was pissing myself and couldn't even stop it! It hasn't happened since, thank goodness! Honestly if it is a one off or happens on a very rare occasion, then you've no need to worry! You'll know if you are incontinent as it happens very frequently.
