Hi, i've just been diagnosed with high cholesterol (6.2) my triglycerides are 3.7 so i take this to mean my good cholestral is low and looking at changing my diet to best suit this.

The more i look the more confused i get about what is good or isn't etc and thought a support group on here might be good to share ideas/meals etc. and anything information you've found.

So far, cutting out sugary sweets and drastically cutting back on bread, trying to go wholegrain on rice/cereal and need to eat porridge for breakfast along with warm lemon water.

What about everyone else?

If you're trying to reduce cholesterol you need to cut down on fatty food, if your cholesterol is related to diet, which according to latest research is a minority of people, including me.

You need to restrict cheese, processed meat, cut visible fat of meat etc. Someone is bound to come along and suggest LCHF but it may not work if you have familial hypercholesterolemia, I tried it for my diabetes but my cholesterol went sky high.

Mine is a similar level to yours and my good cholesterol is also high. To be honest the gp didn’t seem particularly fussed about trying to lower it - didn’t think statins were necessary because everything else was good - not overweight, blood pressure fine etc.

I have vaguely cut down the amount of crisps I eat. Have not yet cut down on cheese. I have tried that flora pro-active marg but it’s vile and gave me stomachache.

Hello, good idea for a thread. My numbers are similar to yours - cholesterol is 6.5, triglycerides 3.1 and LDL is 4.9 Shock which dr Google tells me is 'very high'. I really want to avoid meds if I can as I'm already taking a lot. It has been going up over the last few years in spite of the fact that I'm slowly losing weight (am still very overweight though). My mum has it so I'm sure there's a hereditary element. I do eat too much crap although my meals are quite decent. Have follow up with doctor tomorrow, am sure I'm going to get a telling off! One of my LFTs has gone up massively too which is almost certainly due to meds. (Got a copy of results by post, not in the U.K.)

It's just me and DH at home and I find cooking for him restrictive... he's a meat and 2 veg man who doesn't like curry or pulses or anything much veggie. I could live off veggie curries at least 50% of the time! I don't want to end up doing 2 different meals though! So far I am thinking that anything with bacon in I will cook without it and serve his crumbled on top... and that's as far as I've got! We're not massive cheese eaters though I'll have parmesan on my pasta.

I had a whole panel of bloods done and I am pleased however that I've managed to accidentally normalise my thyroid function - THS was 5 for years and has gone down to 1.9! No idea what I did although I googled and lots of the supplements I take (vit B and D, selenium and zinc) apparently help!

Hi just diagnosed with high cholesterol, looking for support/help. How are you all going?

I think statins were all the rage a few years ago and GP's used to prescribe them freely. Now I noticed they are not so quick in prescribing them and find that they accept higher readings than before, the same for BP readings.
