Can i get valium on nhs for flying phobia?

I have had valium once in the past for severe depression/phobia related stuff, so i know it works perfectly for me. But i have to go on a plane on wednesday and again on sunday. I am so frightened i cannot explain it, i know flying is safest etc, but it scares me so much. I am genuinely concerned that i won't be able to get on the plane, the consequence of which would be alot of DP's family never speaking to me again as it's for a big family wedding, i actually have to go - if i could get out of it i would. Just wondered if it's worth speaking to my GP - will they prescribe valium or something similar for this, and what if i offered to pay for it privately would that be possible? Thanks

They can prescribe it for you, and you won't have to pay for a private prescription. I've had it prescribed for dental work in the past because I'm a wuss, and no-one batted an eyelid.

They may only prescribe you enough for your flights rather than a full pack but I'm sure that wouldn't bother you!

I have had it prescribed for the dentist and they were fine - they will prescribe you enough for one one flight there and one flight back and that is it - I am sure they make money on it but they are willing to do it and that is the important thing.

I don't think (not sure though) that you can get it legally otherwise, because it's a class c drug.
