Anyone had severe heel pain/plantar fasciitis?

Had this for a week. I've read it could be plantar fasciitis, not sure why I have it as most of xmas been chilling and not walked much. Anyway I'm in agony. Anyone know how long it takes to get better? Even when I rest it's hurting.

Mine came on quite suddenly after two days of walking (about 30 miles) . I've had it for a year and a half and it's just easing off now. I couldn't walk in bare feet at all and needed shoes with a slight heel (no ballet flats or wellies etc) and a rigid orthotic available from pharmacies. Couldn't wear skechers altgough i know some people find they are comfortable. Exercising by pulling the toes back towards the leg (pull with a belt or similar ) before getting out of bed helps also rolling a ball or can of beans with the affected foot while sitting.

I have Mahabis with orthotics for indoors but Birkenstocks were also good in the summer.

I had this...it started as I had sent a lot of time walking round my house in slipper socks or bare feet.
did the Ibuprofen gel and exercise of YouTube and it eased off after a few weeks.
Bought thick soled memory foam slippers and used my skechers memory foam trainers and have had no problems since.
It's the thin soled shoes that cause the most discomfort rather than then being flat.

Everyone's feet are different so what will work for some will not be suitable for others. Go with what is comfortable for you, if an insole with arch support makes your foot more comfortable then it's probably a good idea. For some people, a slight heel helps, others are better barefoot. OP you are clearly not good barefoot at the momemt so I'd suggest wearing something like a trainer, adding an insole with arch support if there is room in the shoe (don't squash your toes!).
If you can afford to, see a podiatrist who specialises in biomechanics and prescribes orthotics, but only if it doesn't go away after you start wearing some shoes! It's expensive, but worth it if it's an on going problem.

I got this after I joined the gym. I was a total couch potato & was convinced by my sis in law to join the gym with her. I lasted 6 months (a miracle for me!) and my feet haven’t been the same. That was maybe 5 years ago & I have flare ups of plantar faciitis on & off sometimes for months at a time. Things that help; I can’t wear completely flat shoes without insoles. I use crocs as slippers & my asics runners are fine. Calf exercises are essential. The best one for me is to stand on the very edge of a step with my toes on the edge & my heels hanging over the edge & let my heels gently fall back to the floor. I do that a few times during the day. Also flex my feet before I stand out of bed in the morning. When it’s really bad rolling a frozen water bottle under my feet helps too.

I've suffered for about 6 months. I wear Birkenstock's as slippers and Birkenstock high tops for work. If I stick to these I'm pain free.

You poor thing. PF is horrible.

I had it for six months. I had been wearing ballet flats from Next. Zero support and very thin soles.

The mornings were the worst.

I did a lot of gentle heel drops on the stairs. I wore fitflops and make sure every pair of shoes I buy has decent support.

I hope you recover soon.

A week?! That's nothing.
Slight heels makes mine far worse. Flat or no shoes best. So individual.
