**PERSONAL PROBLEM ALERT** - What is this dragging sensation ?

Hi all

I've had this for the last few months or so, probably about 4 or 5 in all. I can only describe it as a really forceful 'dragging downward' feeling down below . It's like a much worse version of the feeling you get when your baby's head is fully engaged. It's achy rather than sharp and it almost feels like I'm very 'engorged' or like the feeling you get in your feet when you stand on a concrete floor (a drawing sensation) x1000.

It happens when I stand up still for 10+ minutes and only seems to come during my period. It's so uncomfortable that I have to sit down or cross my legs, it sort of feels like my insides are being pulled out by gravity.

My first thought was a prolapse but I'm 2+ years post-partum and I'd have thought that a prolapse would be a constant dragging feeling rather than one that happens when I'm on ?

Can anyone help ??

P.S. I go away for a week or so and there's a whole new look on the topics page !

I hate to say this but several MNers seem to have had prolapses a while after giving birth.

Hi Nomdeplume. I too get this and i'm not sure what it is. I also get an achy pain down my leg with it sometimes too. I did ask a doctor once who wasn't particularly helpful and said it was referred pain.
sorry i can't be of more help.

Not going to be much help I'm afraid, but I know exactly the sensation you are describing. I get the same feeling when I'm on, but I've had it for as long as I can remember - so prebabies! I have no idea what causes it BUT I do know that my cervix is naturally very low and drops further when I have my period, so I figure that it is probably connected?!

Hopefully someone more knowledgable will be along soon, but at least you know you are not alone

This happens to me NomdePlume, around the time when I would have my period (I have a coil fitted and don;t have any just now).

Before I had the coil I used to get terrible period pains, including this dragging sensation you mention, but now although I don't get the severe pain I still get this. Having had such severe period cramps previously I just assumed that I get off much more lightly nowadays!

I just can't help worrying that a feeling this intense can't be normal, can it ?!

I've had this so as long as I can remember NdP. And certainly before I had children.

It has got better over the years but I still have times every month where, like you, I have to sit or cross my legs when I have my period because that the only thing that takes the pain away. It used to last for a few days of each period but now (thank god!!) I only have it for a couple of hours on the heaviest day.

The only thing I found that made it better was to wear towels rather than tampons evry month. It didn't stop it altogether but did make it better.

NomDePlume · 02/09/2004 20:34

It does feel like I'm very swollen inside, so perhaps I should lay off the tampax when it's bad. Thanks for the tip
