Terrible trapped wind

Hiya,

My LO is suffering with terrible trapped wind. It's ongoing and gets especially bad at night time - last night I fed at 12.30 and was still winding him at 3.30am as every time I put him down he was shrieking in pain (despite actually being asleep!)

Can anyone recommend any winding tips?

Also does anyone know if GPs can prescribe anything for severe trapped wind??

TIA Smile

Have you tried infacol? How old is baby x

Waterfoot · 04/01/2019 08:52

He's ten weeks. Tried infacol and gripe water - they improve it slightly but don't really have the impact he needs.

My LO had an op just before christmas as he had a blockage between stomach and bowel so he's had a few digestional issues. It seems to have got much worse since op so not sure if it could be a side effect??

Get him to the doctors, especially if this is following an op.

The health visitor told me infacol takes around 2 weeks to properly get into system? I have the full two peppets too.

I wonder if he has night time colic.. I lay my little one slightly on her side this helped her a little.

Is LO been sick?

cindersrella · 04/01/2019 08:57

Ahh sorry I hadn't ready about Operation. I would be taking to docs as a precaution just incase it's all linked x

TheOnlyWaysTitsUp · 04/01/2019 08:58

My DD's wind pain was eased by a combination of:

  1. Infacol before each feed
  2. Using feeding positions in which she took in less air (rugby hold when my flow was slower and lying down on my side when it was faster)
  3. 5 minutes burping after each feed, varying between sat up and over shoulder, and between pats and rubs
  4. Cycling her legs for a few seconds then bringing both knees up to her chest, then repeating for a few minutes.

You have my sympathy - the screams are heart-rending, aren't they. Good luck.

I found dr browns bottles were also amazing. Just keep an eye on when tests need changing too

Thanks all. Going to call HV and poss pop to the docs - hate to seem dramatic going in for wind, but it really is bad and never ending!!

It's not dramatic if he is post op. Well it's not dramatic anyway... trapped wind really hurts. I had a little one with colic and dairy intolerance so I have been the through the wind, sickness, runny nappies, sleepless nights. It's horrendous..

I used to try and put a pillow at bottom of cot too to keep legs bent a bit up to chest. Warm bath helped my little one too but o also I understand bathing really late at might is not ideal x

Well we've put on gaviscon... I'm sure that's the docs answer for everything! Going to give it a go over the weekend and if no improvement I'll go back next week. Sigh.

If your still really worried at all and you have access to a walk in centre maybe go there over the weekend. Does LO have follow up with specialist ?
