Hi, i have suffered with heavy periods for sooo long but over the last 2-3 years they have become so much worse, at the worst of the symptoms I had to be able to get to a toilet every hour as I bled through lilets largest tampon (6/7 drops on the box) and flooded the sanitary towels I also wore as a back up before the hour was up during my first 3 days. The clots were the size of plums and it quite frankly knocked the crap out of me energywise but I stupidly thought it was all part of getting older. I went to my GP in Sept mainly because I had terrible restless legs and bruising so wanted to be checked for anaemia. My GP was great, arranged a blood test and suggested that my heavy periods and clots were possibly due to fibroids so sent me for an ultrasound and prescribed Tranexamic & mefenamic acid to take on my heavy days. The first scan showed multiple fibroids and an enlarged left ovary so I had to have a repeat scan 8 weeks later, this didnt show an enlarged ovary but my GP said it showed multiple large fibroids. I have seen a gyny consultant today and she was pushing for the Mirina coil, I have done a lot of reading and NOTHING says that the coil reduces the size of the fibroid (she said it would) my uterus is currently the size of a 12 week pregnancy and the fibroids are approx 5-8cm depending on who you ask!! I don't need birth control and the Tranexamic/mefenamic acid reduces my bleeding so i am thinking I will carry on. The other symptoms are manageable. please share any experience/comments 😁
