Any Dentists About???

OK - my own stupid fault so I was late for Dentist appointment by about 7 minutes - no problem. However, he has removed me from his NHS list.

On the last visit he drilled a tooth that had an absess and packed it with antibiotic gel and put on a temp filling.

So, what do I do now? Will my tooth be ok for a while or do I need to find a new dentit and pay millions for my treatment.

I am so gutted - but its my own fault for trying to work and combine a need for NHS dentistry.

I was threatened with this by my last dentist for being 10 mins late. I had half my wisdom tooth missing and raging toothache. Haven't been back and that was 2 years ago. I'm okay, painfree, etc.

No idea if it is okay. He is an arse though.

Hi

I am appauled by your dentist! How many times have you sat in his waiting room, way past the time you were due to see him becuase he was running late!

First thing i would do is make a complaint to the General Dental Council and the Primary Care Trust. You used to have to fit a certain 'criteria' before a dentist could remove you from his books. I would at least be looking for reinstatement with my dentist until the course of treatment is finished, especially when NHS dentists are so hard to come by!

If you have had an abscess you do need to get a dentist as soon as possible. Your tooth may need a root filling. It definately needs treating and you defiantely need to be under the care of a dentist in case the tooth develops another abscess.

Good luck!

I would ahve thgouth he was obliged to complete the course of treatment but could charge you for the missed appointment. PCT should know and be able to find an alternative. I had to wait about 3 weeks between the initial temporary treatment and next one so should be ok for a bit as long as the filling holds.

I don't think he can do that. I am sure he has an obligation to finish the treatment...(I could be wrong, it has been a while since I did NHS dentistry). When you start treatment on the NHS he is bound by contract to see it thru unless you act unreasonably.

I think being 7 minutes late is not unreasonable, unless you have a regular habit of doing it or miss appointments lots.

I would contact your local health authority & ask them where you stand. Or try here, see if it helps.

That sounds very unreasonable to leave you with a part done RCT, when you were only 7 minutes late...he could have just cut short the appointment & re booked you.

It will be OK for a while, but you will start to get problems eventually, but how long is anyones guess.
