ok, so I have namechanged for this.

My DP has this bad rash in his bottom, it has been years now, it is itchy and red and bumpy, no matter how clean he keeps his nether parts, the rash is there. In his pubic hair and in his bottom. One doctor said it was from eating lettuce. (I suppose he meant unwashed lettuce as in a salad?) One doctor said it was from an unclean toilet ring. I fail to see how any of these suggestions as to the CAUSE of this rash has any real bearing. One doctor suggested fungal infection, one said it could be a sweat rash. He has tried Anodesyn, Dactacort, and Canesten Hydrocortison& Clotrimazon cream, no joy. The rash is there. His bottom looks like mince. He has now given up on doctors. But I cannot resign myself to waking up in the morning to "scratch scratch scratch" and "no I cant got to the baby, I have to wash my hands, I have been scratching my arse".

Suggestions?

sounds like he's had it for a while, so I suspect that you have insisted on cotton underwear?

afraid that's where my knowledge ends, but I do recall Rory McGrath doing a rant on tv about "itchy arse syndrome" and apparently it does exist, and that is its name, so you could maybe google that?

Thanks Squonk. I googled as per your suggestion and may have found either a solution or another way to waste good money. Time will tell.

He could try a hydrocortisone cream, that should help the itching if anything.Sounds miserable, your poor dh.

caterpiller · 27/06/2007 00:05

It has to be a fungal infection. Perhaps he just hasn't been prescribed he correct cream yet.

You know that embarrassing illness programme that's been on TV (CH 4 I think)? I think you can email in photos and they might do a diagnosis - even possibly show the photo on telly!! Worth a try if they're stil doing it as I guess no faces will be shown in the pic
