Has anyone had this and please tell me it stopped hurting!!! I had an extraction a week ago and had not have 5 injections to numb me up for extraction. The nerve was very aggravated and I had been on antibiotics but only for 2 days before extraction. The dentist eventually injected directly into my nerve which was bloody agony! He did get the tooth out but two days later I was in agony again and after a trip to an emergency private dentist it was established I had dry socket. She cleaned it and packed it with the clove dressing but if has obviously fallen out and it is hideous and has had me in pain all over Christmas. I am managing with pain killers and saline mouthwashes but I cannot carry on like this! Should I go back to the dentist or will it just heal? Please help!

Hope you get to see a dentist today OP.

If you do, ask them to numb the area (was the extraction from your bottom jaw? The bone is much more dense than the top jaw and dry socket is much more common).

It's totally worth having an injection, you will feel better instantly.

They can then give it a really good clean, making it bleed so another clot forms. The packing will help, and as pp said, don't rinse so it stays in.

Also ask for antibiotics. Hope you get it sorted today.

Thank you all for your comments. The dental surgery are calling me back with an emergency appointment slot. It is calmer now I have had nurofen this morning. Fingers crossed she doesn't hurt me ;-(

Are you all sorted?

ThespianTendencies · 27/12/2018 23:17

Hi Solasum - I could not get an appointment today but the dentist called back (well, the receptionist did) and recommended that I continue with salt water after food etc and pain relief. I am going longer between pain killers today so I hope and pray it is getting better. it is horrendous pain and I cannot wait to feel normal again! It seems worse in the morning, during the night and when I am active. If it is no better tomorrow then I will insist I get seen. it feels kind of itchy today! Is that the same sensation you get when a graze is healing? I hope so...

Thespian you need to clean it really well with a syringe or shower head to get everything out of there and then give the gum a little scratch to make it bleed and then you will have a new clot for it to heal over. My dentist refused to see me when I had it and that's how I got rid of it

Ollivander84 · 29/12/2018 02:10

I seem to remember itchy was when it was healing. I'm a weirdo though - I got dry socket (smoking after extraction) Blush and the funny taste was the only reason I went back. Didn't hurt at all really 🤷🏽‍♀️😳 and the dentist was very confused why I wasn't in more pain

Please can someone give me some advice.. I had a deep filling done on my last back right tooth 4 weeks ago, it was quiet deep and close to nerve, two days later my post crown on the sides started to pain horrifically.. I went back to dentist who told me it's the filling she done which is radiating pain towards my crown.. Them I had ctbc scans by entodontist who found nothing wrong with my crown and said it was the back tooth.. So I had the back tooth extracted last week cuz did not want another crown in my mouth.. They told me the pain around my crown would stop.. But no I'm in worse pain around the crown.., I'm going crazy cuz then I went to get another opinion from another dentist who told me I had infection I'm so stressed and just dunno what to do no.. I've been on antibiotics twice .. I've spent so much money and no results really down just wanna sort this out.. Dunno what to do anymore.. Anyone pls advice .. Post crown 8 years old now..

Iminastoreandimsinging · 29/12/2018 20:52

Nitapuppy can you describe the pain? I'm assuming the crowned tooth has had root canal?

HappenstanceMarmite · 29/12/2018 21:09

Nitapuppy I’m wondering if you have dry socket in the extraction site. Can you see that far back into your mouth and check whether the clot/scab is still there? Either way you need to see a dentist ASAP.

ThespianTendencies · 31/12/2018 16:32

Nitapuppy that doesn't sound right at all. Four weeks is too long to be struggling with toothache. It sounds horrendous. I had dry socket and it was horrendous pain. Thankfully, after a week I am pain free again but it has been awful! If you can get back to the dentist and insist that you know there is something wrong then they will have to listen to you. Good luck, I hope you get it sorted and get some peace from pain soon. Happy New Year!

Also, you do tend to get deferred pain from a tooth - meaning you cannot always tell where about s the pain is originating from.

How are you doing thespian and nita?

ThespianTendencies · 03/01/2019 07:20

All pain free last last. Still have tenderness around the socket but no pain. Thank goodness! Thanks for asking. HNY Smile
