Heartburn - remedies

myidentitymycrisis · 25/12/2018 10:05

I’ve had sharp heartburn since last night
I’m staying in a rental cottage and have limited supplies
Any suggestions for remedies? I don’t usually suffer from this
Thanks

I woke up with the same thing! Try eating something bland, maybe a piece of toast. Gives the excess acid something to 'eat' rather than you!

Oh dear. I know it's Christmas and all that, but if you don't usually suffer from this I suggest you call 111 and get your symptoms assessed properly.

'Heartburn' can be due to a lot of things, some of them serious, e.g. heart attack (especially in women, who often don't have what are thought of as typical heart attack symptoms).

Make the call. Hope all is ok.

I am a long time sufferer too - the best thing I can suggest when you dont have any medication with you is sipping water and eating some dry toast. After that dont eat anything fatty (pizza or fry up - both probably fairly avoidable today!). I also try to avoid dairy - no yoghurt or cheese. Milk is supposed to help heart burn but tbh it makes mine worse.

If you are going for a kip, prop yourself up when lying down and lie on your left side (something to do with the acid in your stomach settling better on the left).

I hope you feel better soon Flowers

I would make a salty dish, eh scrambled egg with mint or black tea.

Gaviscon doesn't touch the sides for me

Trial and error, Toast gives me Heartburn but Milk helps. You can’t beat Gaviscon.

If as you say you have limited supplies then sipping water as and when is better than nothing and I also find milk helps, again little and often. Hopefully it will subside. Good luck, it's bloody annoying ain't it?

Baking soda and a giant belch.

No chocolate , alcohol, caffeine , fizzy drinks. Eat slimy food like porage and melon. Fixed mine in a day or so .
Oh, Merry XmasXmas Confused

Eat nothing until it stops. Then eat plainer lower fat food for a while. Christmas or not!

HebeMumsnet · 25/12/2018 20:31

Yep. Good advice. If you're sure it's nothing more sinister, milk, don't drink booze and try to sleep slightly propped up tonight. Hope it passes, OP!
