Freaking out over uterine cancer xmas eve

Looking for some advice. I’ve had post coital bleeding for a year on and off. I had a colposcopy and was diagnosed with CIN2. This was treated with LLETZ which solved the problem for 6 months before coming back. I was then found to have an ectropion which was treated & solved the problem.

Now on Xmas eve two weeks after my last period I’ve started another period which made me check my calendar. This also happened in November.

I’ve now googled my symptoms after a glass or two of Baileys and it’s thrown up it could be possible for it to be uterine cancer. I’ve not even been tested for this.

My question is if it was uterine cancer would the post coital bleeding have stopped after LLETZ/ silver nitrate treatment or would it have continued? If it would have continued it don’t need to be so concerned. Hope that makes sense and someone replies. Feeling a bit worried and wobbly.

Your ectropian has probably come back which is normal

Gigglemousey · 25/12/2018 10:56

I had an examamination by a gynaecologist in November who found no ectropion. I guess my main concern is would the LLETZ stop the symptoms if it was anything to do with my uterus?
reddannie I’m in my late 20s. I hope your sister is doing well now.

Also, if my uterus is the problem it’s been the problem for 12 months. Urgh it’s all I’ve been able to think about and has totally ruined my Christmas.

I had lots of uterine bleeding last year, best to go back to GP and get at least a scan done and maybe a hysteroscopy. Mine was fibriods - think its quite rare for it to be cancer.

Gigglemousey · 25/12/2018 23:19

Yes, think I will ask for a scan. Just annoyed in the year I have been going back and forth from the gynaecologist at no point was uterine bleeding suggested. The focus has entirely been on my cervix and the ectropion/ CIN 2 being the cause of the bleed.

But then part of me thinks that the fact treatment for the cervix stopped the bleeding at least temporarily means that the problem is the cervix.

I don’t know my thoughts are just going round in an upsetting loop.

Giggle - posting to give you my support .About two months ago my consultant thought I had non Hodgins lymphoma and arranged tests. I was in a flat spin until the results came back and it is not that all. I hope you find an answer soon

Gigglemousey · 26/12/2018 00:08

Thanks Perch the waiting is horrible, as is the trying to get anyone to take me seriously. A year of bleeding after sex & pain and now bleeding randomly at other times too. I’m just stressed with it all. I’m glad your scare is over now.

Still worrying about this. Does anyone know if LLETZ would stop bleeding caused by uterine cancer?

OP posts:
PenguinPandas · 29/12/2018 18:48

Sorry don't know - would guess not but think you should go back to doctors and get them to do more tests. Explain you are worried about uterine cancer. I think chances would be very low but still needs properly checking out - referral to gynaecologist at hopsital. There's a cancer support thread which includes people waiting for testing in the general health section and lots of them are knowledgeable on this kind of thing. Much more likely to be something fairly innocent like fibroids if coming from uterus. I've had bleeding on and off for years, so has my friend and no cancer found.

Gigglemousey · 29/12/2018 21:13

Thanks Penguin that’s reassuring. I had a telephone consultation with my GP yesterday who didn’t think it necessary for me to be referred for more tests. He said I already had seen the gynaecologist three times last year and have been treated for CIN/ ectropion. Which is true but the problem has only worsened in the last 12 months, not get better and I didn’t have an ultrasound or anything. GP said if it was uterus related LLETZ wouldn’t have helped, but I can’t find anything to back that up and he seemed dismissive in general. Said the pelvic exam would have picked up any issues. Told me I’m too young for it to be cancer. And basically not to bother the surgery again with the issue. Sad

Don’t be dismissed Giggle, it’s your body and your life potentially on the line... I had this scare earlier on in the year so you want to go for a scan to eliminate anything untoward... if it is your uterus causing the bleeding then the chances are it’s polyps or fibroids. Mine was caused by a thickening if the uterus wall.
Go and insist that they refer you for a scan, feature only to give you peace of mind. 😘

Wowserme · 29/12/2018 21:23

Argh!! Predictive text... that should have been if only to give.... x

PenguinPandas · 29/12/2018 21:49

Can you see a different doctor, find female ones are better for this. I would get more tests done, uterine can only be definitely ruled out by biopsy I think but if a scan will give a very good idea as will show fibroids etc. Referral back to gynae would be ideal and they can do scan and if needed biopsy and they cover cervical and uterine. My doctors had a thing were you could pay £50 to have a private scan there though was a bit rubbish compared to hospital one. My doctor said they can normally see on a scan if things don't look right.

You are definitely not too young, I got told by one I didn't look like I had cancer Xmas Shock

KitKatCHA · 29/12/2018 22:11

Can you go to a sexual health clinic instead of the GP?

ElyElyOy · 29/12/2018 22:44

LLETZ would have no impact on uterine cancer symptoms. It’s a completely separate thing. LLETZ would improve ectropian, and ectropian can come back quickly. A soft cervix (often in women on the pill) can also cause bleeding, as can PCOS, fibroids, endometriosis, adenomyosis.

Basically there are loads of common gynie problems that can cause bleeding. If you read getting pain (and pain with sex) then probably endometriosis is more likely. Have a look at the endo UK website, it’s really helpful.

Good luck and please relax a little and enjoy New Year. Book an appointment with your GP, outline all of your symptoms and request a gynie referral: google the NICE guidelines for endo diagnosis (or have a look at your CCGs pathway for women’s health) and attend your appointment armed with the knowledge of what you can expect the GP to realistically do (I would expect a swabs and blood test on your hormones as they can commonly cause these issues, followed by a transvaginal ultrasound and then a gynie referral if all that is clear).

Gigglemousey · 30/12/2018 00:07

Thanks ElyElyOy you seem very knowledgeable. Do you have any medical background at all?

Hoping the LLETZ wouldn’t have affected uterine cancer! Would make it easier to not worry.

Will try that plan of action.

OP posts:
ElyElyOy · 30/12/2018 10:20

No, just a very long history of personal experience with lots of gynie problems.

And LLETZ certainly would have no effect on uterine cancer as it’s a completely different area. It’s basically like having an ingrown toe that affects your walking and treating the toe nail but thinking it’s because you have a problem with your knee: if that makes sense!
