My parents certainly thought it was worth it for them - it showed up problems for them and they have both received treatment since

mosschops30 · 27/06/2007 10:33

exactly, I went to a talk yesterday about ovarian cancer and thought, why isnt everyone offered screening, its so crap.
How much did your parents pay? and would they recommend that company?
I am with BUPA but know I am not covered for routine tests, will see how much they charge too.
Thanks again

Not sure what they paid but I think they got a bit of a discount for both having scans at the same time
Seemed happy with the company

It was a bit tricky sorting out the treatment afterwards as the GP wasn't happy that they had had screening

macdoodle · 27/06/2007 12:07

Why - if you are worried about ovarian ca you can have an USS for less than £100 total neurotic waste of time for a whole body MRI...puleeeeeease!

janinlondon · 27/06/2007 12:45

The Time article very clearly comes down against such screening, as do most of the screening authorities in this country. I think these companies are ripping off unsuspecting consumers. As Muir Gray says in the article, all screening does harm. You just have to weigh up the risks and benefits. And I don't see that equation working for most people.

janinlondon · 27/06/2007 12:52

Whole body MRI is most likely to come up with an intracranial aneurysm - 2% prevalence, which of course means that most never rupture. Treatment is dangerous and in the vast majority of cases unnecessary.

My parents had CT scans
I think it depends on your age and family history as to whether it is worthwhile or not

Peachy · 27/06/2007 14:29

A few years ago an ex's Dad had a scan here after what was dx'd as a Stroke in USA (they were on holiday) the scan showed it to be a Brain Tumour and did buy him some extra time.

They raved about the efficieny of the unit.

mosschops30 · 28/06/2007 16:33
