Problems with wrist joints since having dc anyone?

Since having ds a year ago I have had problems with my wrists and was wondering if anyone else has experience of this. Sorry this is long but Im worrying about it and hoping someone else will have some experience.

I carry him under my left arm and first that one went, but now the right one is going too.
By going I mean the joint is painful when it is moved and swollen, also weak. It also feels like something is rubbing in the joint.

I went to see the dr a few months ago with the left one and she very helpfully said youve got arthritis and packed me off with a prescription for ibuprofen. I wasnt very happy with that since I am only 32 and my wrists are so sore and Im really restricted with what I do - is this it for the rest of my life?!! Shes not a very approachable dr so yesterday I went to see a different one since the other wrist is now bad. He is doing a blood test for rheumatoid arthritis (which he said could be brought on by hormones of having ds) and sending me for an x-ray for osteoarthritis.

I have been looking up both these on internet and pretty gutted by what I read as cant see how this is going to improve, plus RA sounds really bad.

Any thoughts anyone?

My left wrist has been exceptionally painful since having DS 6 months ago.

It feels as though something is rubbing in the join between my thumb and the nobbly bone that sticks out on your wrist joint.

Sometimes it 'locks' when I pick him up and sends a shooting pain through my wrist.

Have no idea what it is but have put it down to one of those things.

It could be Carpal Tunnel Syndrome instead, if so it's not as serious and can be operated on but not always necessary - I had it after dd2 and wore a wrist support specially made for me at hospital. Ask your Dr to refer you.

I immediately thought of Carpel Tunnel also. It occurs when the nerve running through the wrist joint area is pressed upon. One cause can be increased weight or water retention - would you have expereinced either since having your ds?
You can have surgery for Carpel Tunnel and there are wrist splints that can be puchased that can ease the pain.
Try googling Carpel Tunnel to see if it matches your symptoms and if so, suggest it to the GP when you return.

memarefrommars - that sounds similar, although on my right wrist it's the little finger side. I'll post if I find out what it is.
I will mention carpal tunnel syndrome to doc, not sure I fit the symptoms but is something to consider if the tests for arthritis are negative.

Does anyone have any exp of arthritis?

thanks drunkensailor, that link helped. Hopefully it is just the tendon as it seemed to be in the other posts, but I'm not sure as my joints are swollen.
Ah well I'll just have to wait for the tests.

OMG.....I have this too and I am in agony..especially rinsing out a cup where the movement of emptying the cup of water into the sink sends me into what resembles "a squealing banshee". Seems to be my little finger side too..but will pay closer attention to it..so I can locate the exact position.. In too much pain to know exactally where it is..iyswim. Have been to docs about it and they gave me Diclofenic...did not want to take them so have been suffering ever since. Did not know it was so common and from carry kids..I have 4 and my last one has just turned 2 so is a bit heavy...
